The Work

We're looking for a Product Manager to own Payouts — how employees and contractors actually get paid across Check's infrastructure. It's a well-scoped, high-trust domain: ACH is live and stable today, and we're gearing up for bigger swings next year. You'll partner closely with a dedicated engineering counterpart, Check leadership, and our partners — software companies across diverse verticals — to keep payouts rock-solid while building what's next.

In this role, you will:

• Own execution on Payouts end-to-end, from ACH today toward same-day pay and new payment methods

• Take a well-scoped problem and run with it — you'll be trusted to execute thoroughly and with strong judgment, not just to check boxes

• Sweat the details: catch edge cases before they ship and hold a high bar for quality, with minimal need for rework

• Know when to make the call yourself and when to loop in your manager — escalation judgment matters as much as independent execution

• Partner closely with your dedicated engineering counterpart and cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, partners) to ship reliably

• Connect directly with Check's partners to understand how payouts show up in their day-to-day, and translate that into product decisions

Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have some or all of the following:

• Product management experience in technology companies

• A track record of thorough, low-iteration execution on well-scoped work — you ship things that don't come back for rework

• Good judgment about when to escalate versus handle something yourself

• Payments experience is a plus, but not required — payroll and tax knowledge isn't required either; we consider it learnable

• Comfort partnering closely with engineering, operations, and external partners to drive a project to completion

• Willingness to attend our annual 3-day company offsite in the spring

Travel & Office Policy

The Check team is distributed across the US. Roles can be remote, hybrid, or based in one of our offices in New York City or San Francisco. We offer ample opportunities and encourage employees to attend team offsites, events, and hackathons throughout year. All Checketeers gather in the spring for our annual 3-day company retreat.

For our in-office and hybrid employees, our offices are open all week. We provide meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays and there are regular happy hours, game nights, and other in-person events.

Remote work at Check requires the ability to perform all responsibilities without distraction or disruption, while maintaining quality, effective communication, and productivity.
