About Pleo

Messy spend management is tricky business. And tedious processes are a lose-lose situation for all involved, not just finance. At Pleo, we're changing that. We build spend solutions that make managing money seamless, empowering, and surprisingly effective for finance teams and employees alike - with a vision to help all businesses ‘go beyond’.

The word ‘Pleo’ actually means ‘more than you’d expect’, and living by that mantra has been the secret to our success over the last 10 years.

Now, we’re at a pivotal moment in our journey; every move we make has a direct impact on our 40,000+ customers, our business, and our collective success. We need people who take pride in uncovering customer needs, who turn complex problems into simple solutions, challenge the way things are done (respectfully), and always aim high. With great ambitions driving us forward, we can’t say we’ve got this whole thing figured out. And frankly, that’s half the fun! What we can say is that we’re a driven, progressive, and, importantly, a kind bunch of 850+ people from over 100 nationalities, all committed to delivering the future of business spending, together.

Intro

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our Product Design team at Pleo.

Pleo has spent the last decade changing how companies spend. More than 40,000 businesses across Europe rely on us to manage expenses, cards, reimbursements, and company money with confidence.

Now we’re entering our next chapter.

The way people interact with software is changing rapidly. AI is reshaping how products are built and how customers expect them to work. We believe this doesn’t reduce the importance of product design: it raises the bar. More than ever, customers need products that make complex systems feel understandable, trustworthy, and effortless.

We think fintech is one of the best places in the industry to do that.

Every design decision sits at the intersection of trust, regulation, automation, business goals, and human behaviour. The challenge isn’t making finance look beautiful; it’s making financial complexity disappear.

That’s the kind of design work we’re building at Pleo.

You’ll join either our Treasury or Spend Control area, two critical parts of the product that together help customers move money with confidence and stay in control of how it’s spent. Whether you’re designing cash management, transfers and investment experiences, or approval workflows, spending policies and controls, you’ll work on products that customers depend on every day.

If you’re excited by designing systems rather than screens, enjoy solving difficult product problems, and want to help define what AI-powered product design looks like over the next decade, we’d love to meet you.

Who you’ll work with

You’ll report to our Director of Product Design and work within a cross-functional business area alongside Product Management, Engineering, Data, Research, and Content Design.

Depending on which team you join, you’ll be embedded in either Treasury or Spend Control, while collaborating closely across both as we build a cohesive financial experience.

What you’ll be doing

At Pleo, we’re building products that give customers confidence over their company money: whether that’s moving it, growing it, or controlling how it’s spent.

As a Senior Product Designer, you’ll own end-to-end design for a meaningful part of that experience. You’ll work on the moments that determine whether a customer understands their balances, moves money with confidence, sets up policies that actually work, or adopts features that make their financial operations smarter.

In Treasury, that means cash management, transfers, automatic transfer rules, alerts, investment accounts, and multi-currency experiences.

In Spend Control, that means policy engines, approval workflows, spending limits, card controls, and the frameworks that help finance teams delegate trust without losing oversight.

Both areas share a common goal: turning financial complexity into experiences that feel clear, trustworthy, and effortless.

You’ll work in a highly collaborative environment alongside Product, Engineering, Data, Research, and Content Design, moving quickly while making thoughtful, evidence-informed decisions.

We also believe AI will become an essential part of every product designer’s toolkit. We expect designers to use it to accelerate exploration, research, prototyping, and execution - while continuing to rely on human judgment to understand customers, make trade-offs, and define product direction.

Specifically, you’ll:

  • Own end-to-end design for key surfaces within your team’s area - whether that’s money movement, policy configuration, or something in between.

  • Shape the design strategy for your area, working from first principles, customer insight, and product strategy.

  • Partner with Data and Research to define success, instrument your work, and learn from what you ship.

  • Drive feature adoption through thoughtful introduction patterns that help existing customers discover and understand new capabilities.

  • Use Pleo’s design system, Telescope, fluently while contributing new patterns back whenever you identify opportunities.

  • Bring content and localisation thinking into your work from the beginning. Great financial products work across languages, markets, and regulatory contexts.

  • Raise the quality bar through critique, documentation, mentoring, and by consistently demonstrating excellent craft.

What you bring

You’ll thrive here if you have:

  • Significant experience designing financial, data-dense, policy-driven, or otherwise complex software products.

  • A portfolio that demonstrates exceptional craft, strong product thinking, and measurable customer or business impact. We’re interested in how you think just as much as what you shipped.

  • Comfort using quantitative data to sharpen your judgment - not replace it.

  • Experience partnering closely with Research, Analytics, Product Management, and Engineering, knowing when each discipline should lead.

  • Strong communication skills that help teams understand not only what you’re proposing, but why.

  • A pragmatic instinct for balancing quality, speed, and technical reality.

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity. You’re equally comfortable defining the problem and solving it.

You’ve done things like…

  • Redesigned a financial flow: transfers, account setup, policy configuration, approvals, or something similarly complex; and measurably improved customer outcomes.

  • Designed and evaluated experiments by forming hypotheses, testing ideas, and making informed decisions from the results.

  • Built products across multiple markets where localisation and regulation were design constraints from day one.

  • Identified a structural customer problem and successfully influenced the organisation to solve it at the appropriate level.

  • Took a workflow that customers accepted as “just how it works” and redesigned it into something dramatically simpler.

  • Mentored designers or helped improve how your organisation approaches product design… not just your own work.

Why this role might be a good fit

This role is a good fit if:

  • You enjoy turning complicated systems into experiences customers immediately understand.

  • You believe trust is something products earn through every interaction.

  • You’re excited by the combination of systems thinking, interaction design, data, experimentation, and emerging AI capabilities.

  • You want genuine ownership of a product area and are motivated by outcomes rather than output.

  • You enjoy collaborating with smart people who challenge each other’s thinking and care deeply about craft.

This role probably isn’t the right fit if:

  • You prefer keeping domain complexity at arm’s length. Treasury and Spend Control reward curiosity and deep understanding.

  • You’d rather work independently than collaboratively. Our best work happens across disciplines.

  • You aren’t interested in connecting design decisions to measurable customer outcomes.

How you’ll develop

In your first few months, you’ll:

  • Become deeply immersed in your product area, understanding customers, the business, the technology, and where the biggest opportunities exist.

  • Partner with your Product Manager and Engineering Lead to identify a meaningful area of ownership and begin shipping improvements.

  • Establish trusted working relationships and your own design rhythm within the team.

Over time, you’ll:

  • Own strategy as well as execution for an increasingly important part of the product.

  • Build a track record of shipped improvements backed by evidence, not opinion.

  • Become a recognised voice on designing complex financial products across Pleo.

We’re building the kind of design organisation we wish already existed: one that combines exceptional craft, rigorous product thinking, AI-native ways of working, and genuine ownership.

If that sounds like the kind of team you’d like to help build, we’d love to hear from you.
