Our Role

We're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to own CI/CD, build tooling, release pipelines, and developer experience across our engineering teams with a strong focus on Vortex, our open-source Electron mod manager (TypeScript, React, Redux, Node.js) used by millions of gamers.

You'll design and maintain the infrastructure that lets our engineers ship confidently and often: pipelines, packaging, testing, monitoring, and the tooling that sits underneath it all. Experience with Electron or desktop app packaging is a strong plus given Vortex is a key focus, but we're primarily hiring for platform engineering depth so the desktop-specific pieces can be picked up on the job.
  • Own and improve CI/CD pipelines across all services (GitHub Actions), including Windows and Linux build runners.
  • Design and maintain release pipelines: versioning, staging/beta channels, and deployment/installer generation.
  • Set up and maintain testing infrastructure: unit/integration (Vitest) and E2E (Playwright).
  • Improve developer experience across teams: local dev setup, fast rebuild/reload cycles, debugging tooling, and dependency strategy (pnpm, monorepo tooling, security scanning).
  • Maintain and evolve build toolchains: TypeScript compilation, bundling (Webpack 5, migrating to Rolldown), and monorepo orchestration (pnpm/Nx).
  • Support ongoing runtime upgrades (Node.js, and Electron where relevant), managing compatibility and minimising ecosystem breakage.
  • Participate in on-call, respond to infrastructure incidents, contribute to post-incident reviews, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
Essential - Platform, Build & Release
  • Strong production experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD on Windows runners, including PowerShell scripting and the practical differences from Linux-based pipelines around caching, path handling, and runner performance.
  • CI/CD experience for complex, multi-service builds (GitHub Actions or similar).
  • Experience owning release pipelines: versioning, packaging/deployment, staged rollouts.
  • Familiarity with monorepo tooling (Nx, pnpm, or similar).
  • JavaScript bundlers (Webpack required; Rolldown/esbuild migration experience a plus).
  • Testing infrastructure experience, including E2E (Playwright or similar).
Important - Infra & Cloud
  • At least one major cloud provider (we're multi-cloud).
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
  • Monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, or similar).
  • Understanding of secrets management and infra security principles.
Bonus - Electron & Desktop
  • Production experience shipping or maintaining an Electron (or comparable, e.g. Tauri/NW.js) desktop application.
  • Electron packaging and distribution (electron-builder or similar), including code signing and auto-update.
  • Native module compilation (node-gyp, C++ addons) and managing compatibility across Electron/Node.js upgrades.
  • Code signing infrastructure (EV certificates, HSM workflows, Windows code signing).
  • Desktop crash reporting and telemetry (Sentry, Crashpad, Breakpad, OpenTelemetry, or similar).
  • Binary diff / delta update mechanisms (bsdiff, courgette, or similar).
  • React and Redux in a desktop application context.
  • We work a 4-day week of 32 hours, with no reduction in pay.
  • An allowance of £25 each month to spend on video games.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Private BUPA healthcare for you and your family.
  • A very flexible training budget.
  • Regular social events throughout the year. Participation is optional!
