Senior PHP Engineer

Based in Europe, Blackwall is a leading force in cybersecurity, specializing in advanced bot mitigation and web application security. Formerly known as BotGuard, we protect online businesses from automated threats like scraping, credential stuffing, application DDoS, and more. We're on a mission to make the internet safer for legitimate users and businesses. We develop software and services that are used by hosting providers to provide security services to their clients.

About the role:

Most of our software is written in C++ and GoLang, but it needs to be integrated with the control panels used by hosting providers.These control panels are in most cases written in PHP, so we are looking for the ability to develop panel extensions and plugins, implement a native user interface for control panels, patch and extend opensource software like Wordpress, and willingness to learn new technologies as well.

Our Engineers have wide responsibilities over the whole development lifecycle so knowledge of tools such as Git, Docker, Regular expressions, XML, SQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript will become handy.

We are looking for engineers who can solve problems together, think about big problems such as scalability and availability and sometimes go against the current to also challenge the common decision.

Understanding Networking and Web Security will greatly help you succeed. In addition to technical expertise, we value taking ownership beyond the obvious, your motivation to learn new things you don’t yet master, ability to make decisions together with your team and willingness to collaborate with different Blackwall teams.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop integration modules, extensions, and plugins for hosting panels such as cPanel, Plesk, and DirectAdmin.
• Build and maintain plugins for CMS platforms like WordPress.
• Design and implement user interfaces using HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript.
• Support clients in extending their custom client portals written in PHP.
• Implement event handlers and lightweight background applications running in our cluster.

Essential Skills&Requirements:

• 4+ years of professional PHP software development experience with a track record of long-term projects
• Complete understanding of how the WWW works
• Experience with web security
• Working experience in hosting industry is a plus
• Working experience with C++ or Golang is a big plus
