Sunflower Bank, N.A. is looking for an energetic, highly motivated individual to fill the position of a full-time Senior Mortgage Product Development Specialist at our Plano, TX location.

Description:
The Senior Mortgage Product Development Specialist (PDS) plays a critical role in shaping, launching, and sustaining a competitive, compliant, and investor-eligible mortgage product suite for Sunflower Bank, N.A. This role is responsible for the full product lifecycle—from ideation and launch through performance monitoring, adoption, and retirement—while ensuring all products meet investor, Agency, and regulatory requirements.
This position serves as a key connector across Secondary Marketing, Mortgage Origination leadership, Operations, and Compliance, ensuring alignment between market opportunity, origination strategy, and execution capabilities.
In addition, the PDS owns the end-to-end process for investor and Agency approvals, including ongoing recertifications, ensuring uninterrupted eligibility, strong investor relationships, and minimized repurchase risk.
Primary Responsibilities
Product Strategy, Development & Lifecycle Management
- Partner with Secondary Marketing, Mortgage Origination leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and develop new mortgage products and enhancements
- Actively engage with Mortgage Origination leadership to align on:
- New product priorities and go-to-market strategies
- Product adoption trends and production performance
- Opportunities to optimize or reposition existing offerings
- Product retirement or termination decisions based on volume, profitability, or risk
- Lead the end-to-end product lifecycle, including concept development, business case creation, launch execution, performance monitoring, and decommissioning when appropriate
- Define product parameters, eligibility criteria, pricing considerations, and operational requirements to ensure scalability and compliance
- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for all mortgage products post-launch
Investor & Agency Relationship Management
- Serve as a key point of contact for Agencies and investors, managing communications, escalations, and issue resolution
- Maintain a deep working knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA, and private investor guidelines, overlays, and delivery requirements
- Evaluate and onboard new investors and products to enhance competitiveness and execution flexibility
- Maintain and manage all investor agreements and counterparty relationships
Investor & Agency Recertifications
- Own the end-to-end preparation, completion, and submission of all investor and Agency recertifications, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
- Maintain expert-level knowledge of recertification requirements across Agencies and investors, including documentation, financial reporting, QC results, and operational attestations
- Coordinate cross-functional inputs (Operations, QC, Compliance, Finance, Capital Markets) to ensure fully compliant and accurate submissions
- Proactively track all recertification deadlines and requirements to ensure no lapse in investor approvals or delivery eligibility
- Respond to investor conditions, follow-ups, and audit inquiries related to recertification packages
- Identify and mitigate risks that could impact investor standing, eligibility, or counterpart approval status
Repurchase & Risk Management
- Collaborate with Mortgage Operations management and resolution of Agency and investor repurchase requests, including:
- Root cause analysis
- Documentation review and validation
- Rebuttal preparation and submission
- Partner with Operations, QC, and Underwriting to identify trends and reduce defect rates
- Provide feedback into product design and eligibility to proactively mitigate repurchase and salability risk
- Investor scorecard review monthly to identify trends to be shared with department heads.
Execution, Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Lead product launches with clear timelines, milestones, and cross-functional coordination
- Monitor product performance, volume trends, and adoption, providing actionable insights to leadership
- Identify and implement improvements to increase speed-to-market, operational efficiency, and product competitiveness
- Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and investor guidelines
- Support internal governance, including product approvals, committee presentations, and documentation
- Owns the end-to-end preparation, completion, and submission of all investor and Agency recertifications, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to all requirements and deadlines
- Maintains detailed knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA, and private investor recertification requirements, including documentation, financials, QC results, and operational attestations
- Coordinates cross-functional inputs (Operations, QC, Compliance, Finance) to compile and validate recertification submissions
- Proactively tracks recertification timelines and ensures zero lapse in investor approvals or eligibility
- Responds to investor follow-ups, conditions, and audit inquiries related to recertifications
- Identifies and addresses gaps or risks that could impact approval status or ongoing investor
Education / Experience
- Minimum of 5–7 years of mortgage banking experience, with strong exposure to:
- Secondary Marketing
- Investor relations
- Product development and/or capital markets
- 4-year college degree or university with major course work in a discipline related to the requirements of the position, preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated experience working across cross-functional teams and influencing senior stakeholders, including Mortgage Origination leadership
- Direct hands-on experience completing and submitting investor and/or Agency recertifications is required.
- Proven ability to independently prepare complete recertification packages, interpret investor eligibility and recertification requirements, resole deficiencies and respond to investor recertification conditions.
- Experience ensuring continuous investor approval status without interruption
- Strong knowledge of mortgage guidelines, underwriting practices, and loan salability
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Professional and leadership qualities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong customer service experience
