Role Summary
The Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer will lead the design, delivery, and coordination of mechanical systems across a range of commercial, residential, mixed‑use, and refurbishment projects. The role involves technical leadership, project management and client engagement. You will ensure all mechanical designs meet UK regulations, sustainability targets, and industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Design & Technical Delivery
- Lead the design of HVAC, public health, heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water, and above‑ground drainage systems.
- Produce and review calculations, specifications, drawings, and technical reports.
- Undertake detailed design using tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
- Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, CIBSE Guides, BS/EN standards, and local planning requirements.
- Project & Team Leadership
- Lead mechanical design packages across RIBA Stages 1–6.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, structural, architectural, and sustainability specialists.
- Manage project timelines, deliverables, and resource planning.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, contractors, and external stakeholders.
- Present design proposals, technical solutions, and progress updates.
- Sustainability & Low‑Carbon Design
- Integrate low‑carbon technologies, heat pumps, MVHR, district heating, and renewable systems into designs.
- Work closely with sustainability teams on Part L, TM54, TM65, BREEAM, and energy strategy requirements.
- Promote whole‑life carbon thinking and energy‑efficient design solutions.
- Construction & Delivery Support
- Review contractor submissions and technical queries
Required Skills & Experience
Technical & Professional
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Chartered or working toward CEng (CIBSE or IMechE).
- Strong understanding of UK building regulations, CIBSE guidance, and industry standards.
- Proven experience delivering mechanical designs for commercial offices, residential developments, hotels, retail, or mixed‑use schemes.
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP)
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and client‑facing ability.
- Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with Passivhaus, NABERS, or net‑zero carbon design.
- Knowledge of district energy, thermal modelling, or CFD.
- Experience in design‑and‑build and traditional procurement environments.
- Familiarity with BIM Level 2 workflows.
