Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Scientific will function as the industry leader, representative and technical subject matter expert, contributing to standards development, new scientific methods and industry guidance on new technologies. In this role you will recommend new services and provides guidance to Marketing on appropriate technical marketing materials. Additionally, you will partner with Sales to provide recommendations and advise Customers on scientific related challenges and methods. You will lead and mentor scientists in scientific evaluations, new technologies and method development projects while growing team members for long-term success at STERIS. This role supports global STERIS scientific leadership in harmonization of processes and methods.
Location:
- Home based role with preference given to those candidates currently living within commuting distance of Brooklyn Park, MN area.
- Additionally, this position requires domestic travel, estimated to be 25% and 5-10% international travel required.

What You'll do as a Senior Manager, Scientific
- Demonstrates technical expertise of one or more STERIS scientific technologies at the level of a subject matter expert
- Mentors scientific personnel up to and including “Managers” and is responsible for all aspects of personnel management for all direct reports including workflow, objectives and development plans
- Responsible for defining and the management, design, development and delivery of strategic objectives including providing leadership, guidance and direction to the project team(s)
- Initiates and champions scientific projects. Participates on and/or leads cross functional project teams and maintains good working relationships within STERIS
- Sought after for technical expertise and developmental experience
- Responsible for planning, coordination and execution of work assigned to an extended or multiple groups
- Provides status reports on the group, identifies and implements means of improving quality and/or quality of results and alerting management to potential issues
- Represents industry and actively participates in trade and scientific organizations, contributing to standards development that will have a strategic and business impact on STERIS companies
- Provides guidance and support to Customers with sales partnership, improving the Customer experience
- Author and presents on topics related to technical expertise through papers, seminars, webinars and conferences
- Collaborate with Sales to win new biocompatibility business and with marketing to assure appropriate representation of biocompatibility services to the industry, working collaboratively with Sales to win new biocompatibility business.
- Drive continuous improvement by leveraging Consumer insights, market trends, and industry research to optimize innovation concepts and priorities to drive process improvement and gain market share. Establish a continuous improvement mindset and cascade through the organization.
Duties continued
- Serves as a scientific contact point for sales, vendors and consultants
- Proposes solutions and defines technical direction for future scientific development efforts
- Complies with established procedures and within regulatory and laboratory requirements
- Perform all work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner
- Maintain knowledge of ISO, USP, ASTM, FDA and EPA requirements for method validation and stability
- Provides technical input to less experienced members of the group and industry
- Perform mathematical analysis and interpretation of data.
- Formulates hypothesis and designs experiments to test hypothesis
- Recognizes, communicates and provides interpretation of unexpected results
- Performs scientific literature searches and evaluations
- Provide current product support to marketing and sales teams
- Provide technical expertise in assisting with Customer issues or visiting Customer site
- Review sales and marketing documents for technical accuracy
The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Toxicology, Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry is required
- Requires 15+ years of progressive laboratory and project management experience, with at least 10 years of those years in specific biocompatibility experience
- Practical working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
- Minimum 4 years of experience managing / directing a Team
Preferred
- Advanced degree in applicable area is preferred
- Experience working in large, public, multi-state and multi-national company

Pay range for this opportunity is $135,000 - $160,000. This position is eligible for bonus participation.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
