Fathom Management is seeking an experienced Senior Java Spring Boot Developer to support the design, development, modernization, migration, and ongoing support of scalable Java-based microservices and APIs in a modern cloud environment.
The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on Java development expertise, advanced knowledge of the Spring ecosystem, and experience designing, building, deploying, and maintaining production-grade APIs. This role will play a key part in modernizing legacy monolithic applications, improving database architecture and performance, and delivering reliable, secure, cloud-based services.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical execution with the ability to lead API design, guide modernization efforts, identify performance bottlenecks, and collaborate across development, database, infrastructure, and security teams. Experience deploying and operating containerized workloads in AWS using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm is essential.
Candidates should demonstrate current, hands-on experience in several of the following areas:
Modern Java application development using Spring Boot, Spring Batch, and Hibernate.
Microservices architecture and migration from legacy monolithic applications.
REST API design, development, integration, and performance optimization.
GraphQL API design and implementation.
AWS cloud deployments, including containerized application workloads and AWS RDS.
Relational database design, migration, query tuning, indexing, and caching.
Docker containerization, Kubernetes orchestration, and Helm deployments.
Secure API development, including OAuth, authentication, authorization, and encryption.
Automated testing, source control, and modern development workflows.
AI-assisted development practices, including GitHub Copilot.
As a Senior Java Spring Boot Developer, you will:
Modernize legacy applications: Plan and execute the migration of monolithic applications into scalable, service-oriented Java microservices while minimizing disruption to live systems.
Lead API design and development: Define API specifications, endpoints, data models, and integration patterns using REST and, where applicable, GraphQL.
Develop production-grade software: Write, test, debug, and maintain core Java services while remaining actively involved in the codebase.
Lead database modernization: Help transition shared databases toward service-specific data layers while preserving data integrity, consistency, and availability.
Optimize database performance: Identify and resolve bottlenecks through query tuning, indexing, connection pooling, caching, and appropriate migration strategies.
Deploy and operate cloud workloads: Build and maintain containerized applications on AWS using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and deployment manifests. Support scaling, rollouts, and resource allocation.
Integrate APIs and services: Deliver reliable integrations with internal platforms, external systems, applications, and third-party services.
Apply secure development practices: Implement authentication, authorization, encryption, OAuth-based access, and other appropriate application security controls.
Improve application reliability: Monitor API performance, scalability, and availability; troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions.
Promote AI-assisted development: Encourage effective use of AI development tools, including GitHub Copilot, to support coding and development productivity.
Collaborate and provide technical leadership: Work with engineering and cross-functional teams to establish sound design patterns, resolve technical challenges, and support maintainable software delivery.
Support quality and version control: Use appropriate testing frameworks, Git, and established development practices to maintain code quality and release confidence.
