Senior IT Implementation Consultant

Type: Full-time contractor (hours negotiable)

OpenFn is the digital public good for public service automation & AI orchestration. Our platform automates data exchange and digital workflows so that governments and NGOs can deliver public services more efficiently, achieve interoperability across fragmented systems, and scale critical public services across health, humanitarian, and government programs.

Our team, Open Function Group, the primary steward of this open-source platform, is a lean, fully-remote team of integration specialists, solution architects, and implementation consultants working across 40+ countries. 

We are not making marginal improvements to already comfortable lives. We are building the infrastructure that allows governments to function, clinics to operate, and vulnerable populations to access services they depend on. The solutions you design will shape whether a ministry can reach its citizens, whether a health system can act on its own data, and whether a government can adopt AI on its own terms rather than someone else's. 

Requirements

The role

We are seeking an experienced IT consultant and implementer to join our small team as a lead consultant on key implementations with government ministries and large NGOs. 

You should have consulting and IT implementation experience, and a desire to apply your skillset to solving hard problems for health and humanitarian programs. 

Day-to-day, you will be tasked with understanding new business processes, technologies, and ambiguous datasets to help design data integration and workflow automation solutions that enable smarter, connected digital systems and better program outcomes. You will play a critical role in ensuring customer success across our project portfolio via excellent project delivery, team leadership, and close collaboration with stakeholders at partner organizations. 

In a given project, you may be communicating with 10+ different people working across multiple time zones. Clear, efficient communication and strong organizational skills are critical in our remote, fast-paced work environment.

What you’ll be doing

You will consult with technical and non-technical teams of government and NGO partners across Africa, Asia, and Latin America to understand their business processes and identify opportunities for automation. Then, you will design and help deliver workflow automation solutions using the open source OpenFn platform, AI, and help from other OpenFn Implementation Specialists.

Your day-to-day will revolve around remote consultations, discovery calls, and workshops, with plenty of solution design and technical implementation in between. You will conduct API discovery and work with software engineers to develop specifications and implement OpenFn workflow automation solutions. You will also train and coach team members and partner implementers on solution design and IT implementation best practices. 

Desired Qualifications

This is a fairly technical role, and candidates should be comfortable consulting with a diverse range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• 7-10+ years of experience working with data or technology in at least one of these functional domains: Data Integration, Workflow Automation, Technology Consulting, Business Analysis, Data Management, Data Analysis, Software Development, Systems Administration
• 3-5+ years in a consulting or customer-facing role providing technical advisory, IT implementation services, technical training, and/or customer service
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences. This role revolves around remote client meetings, workshops, and presentations.
• A details-focused orientation. You must have an analytical mindset, enjoy asking questions, and the ability to make sense of messy Excel spreadsheets full of ambiguous data.
• Technical savvy and familiarity with popular information systems, mobile data collection applications, and data analysis tools (e.g., SQL databases, CRMs, business intelligence tools, open source applications). You don’t need to be a developer or know all of these technologies, but you should be curious and ready to click around unfamiliar applications or databases.
• Fluency in English. Proficiency in French and/or Spanish is also a major advantage.
• Willingness to travel internationally (at least twice per year) for conferences, partner meetings, and government workshops 
• Comfort with REST API fundamentals, JSON, and JavaScript is a major advantage. 
• Hands-on experience with Postman and other workflow automation tools or integration platforms (e.g., OpenFn, Camunda, n8n, Zapier, Make.com, OpenHIM, Mulesoft, WSO2) is a major advantage. 
• Background in international development, digital public goods, GovTech, TechForGood, or global health is a strong advantage
• Ability to work from home or a shared office space with fast, stable internet, preferably in a country that is located in Africa/Europe time zones.

Things that might set you apart

• Experience with business process analysis, documentation, and workflow modeling using standard notations (e.g., BPMN, UML). 
• Experience with data integration, REST APIs, ETL processes and tools, workflow automation, data systems design, data management, and/or systems administration.
• Experience with software testing and/or writing technical specifications. 
• Experience with technology consulting for NGO and government partners, and/or experience working remotely with multifunctional teams from different countries.
• Experience with IT project management.
• Experience leading a team and managing people.
• Working proficiency in another language (preferably French or Spanish).

Financial compensation is commensurate with experience.
