Role Summary
The Senior Electrical Building Services Engineer will lead the design, coordination, and delivery of electrical systems across commercial, residential, mixed‑use, and refurbishment projects. The role requires strong technical capability, project leadership, and the ability to engage confidently with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams. You will ensure all electrical designs meet UK regulations, sustainability objectives, and industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical Design & Technical Delivery
- Lead the design of LV distribution, small power, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, security systems, ICT, access control, and life‑safety systems.
- Produce and review calculations, schematics, layouts, specifications, and technical reports.
- Use design tools such as Amtech/Trimble, Dialux/Relux, Revit, and AutoCAD.
- Ensure compliance with BS 7671, Building Regulations, CIBSE, BS/EN standards, and local authority requirements.
- Project & Team Leadership
- Lead electrical design packages across RIBA Stages 1–6.
- Coordinate with mechanical, architectural, structural, and sustainability teams.
- Manage project deliverables, deadlines, and resource allocation.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, contractors, and external stakeholders.
- Present design proposals, technical solutions, and progress updates.
- Sustainability & Low‑Carbon Design
- Integrate energy‑efficient lighting, smart controls, renewable technologies, EV charging, and low‑carbon electrical solutions.
- Support sustainability assessments including Part L, BREEAM, NABERS, and energy strategy development.
- Promote whole‑life carbon thinking and electrical system optimisation.
- Construction & Delivery Support
- Review contractor submissions and technical submissions
Required Skills & Experience
Technical & Professional
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline.
- Chartered or working toward CEng (CIBSE or IET).
- Strong understanding of UK electrical regulations, including BS 7671, CIBSE Guides, and relevant British Standards.
- Proven experience delivering electrical designs for commercial offices, residential schemes, hotels, retail, or mixed‑use developments.
- Proficiency in electrical design software (Amtech/Trimble, Dialux/Relux, Revit MEP).
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and client‑facing ability.
- Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with smart buildings, IoT systems, or BMS integration.
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems, battery storage, PV, and micro‑generation.
- Experience in design‑and‑build and traditional procurement environments.
- Familiarity with BIM Level 2 workflows.
