About the Position
As an AI SWE / OpenStack Service Engineer, you will support the technical due diligence and transition readiness of OpenStack-derived cloud services as part of the Meridian project. You will analyse modular cloud software at service level, reconstruct service boundaries and dependencies, and create a reliable basis for the technical handover to the receiving teams.
Your focus will be on analysing control-plane components, API interfaces, integration dependencies, configuration models, and runtime requirements. Using AI-assisted software engineering methods, you will accelerate navigation through large, multi-repository codebases, reconstruct call flows, analyse interfaces, and create high-quality technical documentation.
You will also support the diagnosis of build and test issues affecting selected services, including dependency resolution, container builds, runtime configuration, and reproducibility challenges. You will transform your findings into structured handover artefacts such as service overviews, dependency documentation, API summaries, risk analyses, and onboarding documents.
Working closely with experts from DevOps, testing, security, and architecture, you will validate AI-assisted findings and translate them into concrete engineering backlog items. You will identify technical debt, maintainability risks, hidden coupling, and missing documentation. A particular focus will be on clearly distinguishing AI-generated suggestions from evidence-based technical findings and documenting all results in a traceable manner.
Must-Have Skills
- At least five years of professional experience in software engineering, cloud platform engineering, DevOps-oriented development, or technical software handover roles
- Very good knowledge of Python and experience with at least one additional backend or systems programming language, such as Go, Java, C, C++, or Rust
- Sound practical experience with OpenStack-derived architectures, cloud control planes, distributed services, and API interfaces
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools for codebase exploration, technical documentation generation, refactoring support, or build issue analysis
- Good knowledge of CI/CD, container technologies, and Linux-based development and runtime environments
- Experience working with Git and large multi-repository environments
- Understanding of service dependencies, configuration models, database usage, and operational runtime requirements
- Strong analytical skills, particularly the ability to distinguish between AI-generated suggestions and evidence-based technical findings
- Ability to produce concise, structured, and traceable technical outputs for engineering stakeholders
- Willingness to collaborate with DevOps, testing, security, and architecture teams in a confidential enterprise environment
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with OpenStack components and services such as Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Keystone, Glance, Horizon, Heat, or Placement
- Knowledge of message bus technologies and Kubernetes integrations
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and ArgoCD
- Knowledge of GitLab, Jenkins, API clients, log analysis tools, and dependency scanners
- Experience with AI coding agents and development environments such as Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, Cline, Continue, or AI extensions for VS Code
- Experience with code-capable open-weight or enterprise models such as DeepSeek Coder, Qwen/Qwen-Coder, CodeGeeX, StarCoder, Code Llama, or Mistral
- Experience creating service maps, API documentation, risk analyses, and structured handover or onboarding documents
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, build and test automation, and reproducible development and deployment processes
- Experience with agile methods and translating technical findings into actionable backlog items
