The Senior DevOps Engineer is a hands-on technical leader within Rightsline’s Engineering team, responsible for core DevOps engineering, infrastructure automation, and modern container platforms. This is a 100% remote role based in Toronto, Ontario. Reporting to the DevOps Manager, you will split your time between ensuring platform reliability and building scalable cloud systems, designing automated delivery pipelines, architecting containerized services on AWS ECS (Fargate), and elevating software development practices from a platform engineering perspective.

Mission & Impact

This role owns the scalability, efficiency, and reliability of Rightsline’s cloud infrastructure and the pipelines our engineers ship through. Beyond individual delivery, the Senior DevOps Engineer raises the bar for how software is built and deployed at Rightsline by mentoring junior engineers, reducing toil through automation, and setting the CI/CD and operational standards other teams rely on. Success is measured by platform stability, faster and safer releases, and the growth of the team around you.

What You Will Own

Cloud Infrastructure & Containers

  •  Architect, deploy, and manage containerized applications using AWS ECS (Fargate) and serverless technologies

  •  Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and system provisioning (Ansible, AWS Image Builder)

  •  Develop AWS Lambda functions or container-hosted services for automation and monitoring

CI/CD & Developer Platforms

  •  Establish and continuously improve CI/CD standards, deployment pipelines, and operational best practices across software teams

  •  Help manage code deployments across GitHub, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline

  •  Design and develop internal developer platforms and tooling to streamline software development and improve developer velocity

Reliability & Operational Stability

  •  Monitor system performance, perform root-cause analysis on production incidents, and drive proactive site reliability engineering

  •  Maintain system health through monitoring (CloudWatch), emergency escalation, and proactive issue resolution

Mentorship & Cross-Functional Partnership

  •  Mentor and guide junior team members on DevOps best practices, automated workflows, and cloud architecture

  •  Collaborate with cross-functional leadership (Engineering, Product) to align infrastructure strategy with business objectives

What You Will Bring

  •  5+ years of experience in DevOps, Infrastructure, or Platform Engineering roles

  •  3+ years of hands-on experience with container orchestration platforms (AWS ECS/Fargate or Docker), including building and running Docker containers

  •  2+ years working in a Windows Server environment, including basic server administration

  •  Hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud hosting environments, plus working knowledge of networking fundamentals (VPCs, subnets, NAT, routing)

  •  Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible) and CI/CD build, test, and deploy pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, CodeBuild, GitHub Actions)

  •  Strong programming or scripting skills (Python, Node, C#, Go, Bash, etc.), with comfort using command-line tools and Git

  •  Strong background in software engineering and platform tooling that improves developer productivity, including building automation with the help of LLMs

  •  A proven ability to reduce toil through automation, and to work autonomously and deliver consistent results with little oversight

  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Experience building Internal Developer Platforms

  •  Advanced CI/CD experience, including GitHub Actions or complex AWS CodePipeline architectures

  •  Experience with ECS, EKS, or other container orchestration tools

  •  Experience maintaining enterprise-level Active Directory domains

  • Get it Done

Ideas are easy. Execution is the job. We hold ourselves to what we commit to, push through the hard parts, and measure success by our actual accomplishments.

  • Be Humble

Nobody here has a monopoly on good ideas. We listen more than we talk, share credit freely, and check our egos at the door. The best outcome matters more than whose idea it was.
