Senior C++ Desktop Applications Developer

The Senior C++ Desktop Applications Developer is a core technical leader within the Product Development Team. Working closely with the Product Owner and R&D leadership, you will architect, modernize, and implement high-impact software solutions. You are expected to design and implement robust solutions that result in high quality, well-documented, and unit-testable source code while setting the standard for project coding practices.

You will lead the modernization of legacy user interface applications and drive desktop application quality and testing frameworks. Beyond day-to-day development, you will provide accurate estimation and risk assessments, lead R&D improvement initiatives, and mentor cross-functional team members. You will also liaise across teams—including Technical Support, QA, and Product Line Management—to drive root cause analysis and resolve complex performance issues.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Modernization & UI Architecture: Lead the architectural effort to modernize legacy user interface (UI) applications, transitioning older user interfaces to scalable, modern designs.
• Desktop Application Engineering: Architect, maintain, and enhance desktop applications for Microsoft Windows operating systems.
• Testing & Quality Assurance: Establish test strategies, write component unit test plans, and drive software testing processes for modern and legacy desktop environments.
• Core Development: Develop major new features, refactor existing code bases, and recommend core structural changes in data structures, business objects, and UI components.
• Technical Leadership: Lead code, design, and test reviews, driving R&D effectiveness and zero-defect initiatives across the organization.
• Planning & Estimation: Drive sprint/release planning, accurate work effort estimations, risk assessments, and schedule development.
• Troubleshooting & RCA: Perform Root Cause Analysis on complex defects and interface with Technical Support and customers to resolve critical product issues.
• Documentation: Produce technical specifications, system architecture designs, and high-level feature descriptions.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Total Experience: 8–10+ years of professional programming and software analysis in a commercial business environment.
• C++ Expertise: 8–10+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft C++.
• Desktop Applications: Deep, hands-on experience designing, modernizing, and testing desktop applications for Microsoft Windows operating systems.
• Legacy Modernization: Proven track record of modernizing legacy UI applications and refactoring old desktop codebases.
• Core Technical: Experience with ISAM, database design concepts, and SQL.
• Process: Advanced experience in Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Communication & Autonomy: Strong analytical, self-management, and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all organizational levels and directly with customers.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with relational databases like SQL Server.
• Experience with C# and .NET.
• Experience developing Windows Forms applications.
