Senior Backend Engineer – Python & Java (Python Focus)

Location: Remote, Mexico

Nexaminds is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Python and working experience with Java to design, build, optimize, and scale high-performance backend systems and cloud-native applications. The ideal candidate will be Python-first, with experience building modern backend solutions in Python and the ability to maintain and contribute to existing Java-based services in a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment. Experience with AI/LLM integrations is highly valued.

Requirements:

• 5–8+ years of professional backend engineering experience with strong Python development skills.
• Strong hands-on experience building scalable backend services, REST APIs, and data pipelines using Python.
• Professional experience with Java, with the ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and contribute to existing Java services.
• Experience with Python backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Experience with testing frameworks such as pytest and building reliable, maintainable backend applications.
• Deep expertise with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience designing and maintaining microservices and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI/ML backend integration patterns.
• Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve development efficiency and code quality.
• Strong Application Security (AppSec) mindset, with experience identifying and remediating codebase and dependency vulnerabilities.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively across cross-functional product, data, and infrastructure teams.
• Strong written and verbal English proficiency.

Job Duties:

• Design, build, and deploy scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines primarily using Python on Google Cloud Platform.
• Develop new backend capabilities using Python, while maintaining and enhancing existing Java services as needed.
• Work with Python frameworks, testing tools, APIs, and cloud services to deliver reliable and scalable backend solutions.
• Integrate AI/LLM capabilities into backend applications and support modern AI-driven workflows.
• Modernize and optimize cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability, scalability, and reliability.
• Leverage GitHub Copilot and other AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
• Proactively identify, prioritize, and remediate security vulnerabilities to ensure application safety and data protection.
• Conduct code reviews, promote best engineering practices, maintain high test coverage, and produce clear technical documentation.
• Collaborate closely with product, data, and infrastructure teams to deliver high-quality backend solutions.
