Senior Backend Engineer I - Money

Role Overview

As a Senior Backend Engineer I in the Money team, you build and maintain the backend services behind customer accounts and money movement: balances, transfers, payments, statements and daily processing. You deliver well-defined features with high quality, learn how banking-grade systems stay exact and auditable, and help keep a platform that holds customers' money accurate and secure.

• Design, build and maintain backend services and APIs for accounts, balances, transfers and payments.
• Deliver features from technical design to production, with tests, monitoring and alerting.
• Process transfers and payments exactly once, with clear transaction states, safe retries and complete audit trails.
• Integrate with banks and payment partners, and handle their delays, errors and duplicate messages safely.
• Support daily batch processing and reconciliation, and help fix mismatches at the root.
• Write clean, well-tested code and take an active part in code reviews.
• Investigate production issues, find root causes and help ship lasting fixes.
• Work with Product, Finance, Operations, Risk and Compliance to turn requirements into reliable solutions.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience: 4+ years of professional backend engineering, including running services in production.
• Languages: Strong in Java, Go or another modern backend language.
• System Design: Good understanding of microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, event-driven design and reliability basics.
• Data & Messaging: Hands-on with relational databases (transactions, locking, query tuning), caching (Redis) and messaging (Kafka).
• Infrastructure: Experience with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS), containers and CI/CD.
• Mindset & Domain: Ownership mindset and clear communication. Experience in banking, payments, e-wallets or another regulated financial environment is a plus.
