🎯 Senior Backend Engineer

Fully remote. Flexible hours. And a real shot at owning systems used by millions of people. If that's not enough to get you reading further, this probably isn't your role.

About BlueThrone

At BlueThrone, we don’t just build apps.
We take indie mobile products and turn them into global powerhouses.

80M+ downloads, 20M+ MAU, $14M+ ARR - we're rewriting the rules of mobile scaling, and we do it lean.

We move fast, we own our work, and we build things people actually care about. If you want autonomy and real impact, welcome aboard 💙

If you want structure, predictability, a 9–5, or someone to hold your hand - this won't be your vibe.

The product & your role 🎧

You'll be working on one of our flagship products: an analytics-driven music platform that helps millions of people understand their own listening habits - top tracks, artists, and albums, shareable recaps, badges, and social comparisons that turn raw streaming data into something people genuinely obsess over 🎧. It's already loved worldwide, and it's about to grow a lot faster.

We’re looking for Senior Backend Engineer who:
▸ takes initiative,
▸ thrives in fast-changing environments,
▸ isn’t afraid to zoom out to design complex systems or zoom in to perfect a single query.

We're currently migrating parts of our backend from Node.js to Golang, and this role sits right in the middle of that shift. You'll be building new services in Go, and you'll be expected to get hands-on with the existing Node.js codebase along the way - this isn't a greenfield Go project, and legacy Node.js is part of the job, not something you get to avoid.

You'll design and scale backend systems in Golang, make bold architectural calls, and build APIs that other engineers love to use. You'll dive deep into data flows, caching, and performance - always thinking about how backend decisions shape the user experience.

What you'll do

  • Architect and evolve backend systems in Golang that support millions of active users - from designing architecture to making sure everything runs smooth at scale.

  • Build APIs engineers love - clean, reliable, and intuitive, so the frontend team can move fast without friction.

  • Work with complex data flows, caching, and messaging.

  • Maintain and extend our existing Node.js services as part of the ongoing migration to Golang.

  • Catch performance bottlenecks before users ever notice them.

  • Work closely with product, frontend, and data teams - ship fast, iterate faster.

  • Bring fresh ideas, constantly push limits, challenge assumptions, and raise the bar for backend engineering.

What you bring

  • 5+ years building backend systems at real scale - you’ve seen what works and what breaks when millions of people use a product.

  • Strong Golang on the backend. This is your primary stack, and it shows - concurrency, performance, and backend architecture decisions are second nature to you.

  • Experience designing scalable architectures and REST APIs other engineers actually want to use.

  • Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, and Elasticsearch - comfortable with large datasets, unbothered by a bad query plan.

  • Hands-on with Redis and RabbitMQ - you know how to make systems both fast and resilient.

  • Confidence around infrastructure: Nginx, Kubernetes, deployment pipelines.

  • Node.js experience is a HUGE plus. If you've built and shipped with it, great - you'll be right at home working in our legacy codebase.

  • Mobile app experience (iOS or Android) is also a plus.

You’ll fit right in if you

  • Prefer freedom over fixed schedules - remote, flexible, unlimited time off.

  • Are naturally curious and love driving real impact for users and the business.

  • Can wear multiple hats - we love experts, but we also value jacks of all trades.

  • Keep things cool, calm, and collected - save the drama for your llama.

  • Like challenges and aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves to win.

  • Believe in working smarter, not harder - focus on productivity and results, not punching the clock.

  • Follow your passion and have fun while doing work that actually matters.
