Senior Backend Engineer, AI-native

About the role

• We’re hiring into the AI team. You’ll design and build the agentic layer of the product: the loop itself, the tools agents call, how context is selected and served, and the evaluation that proves it works. Not a chat feature. The engine.

What you'll do

• Agents that operate on governed enterprise data models, with a human in the loop.
• Serving the right context to an agent for a given task, out of models with thousands of objects.
• MCP tools that let external agents work with the platform safely: permissions, attribution, audit.
• Evaluation infrastructure that tells us, measurably, whether any of it is working.
• What AI-native means here: Your first move is an agent, not autocomplete. You’ve shipped AI into products: MCP servers or clients, agent architectures, tool-use frameworks, context pipelines, LLM integrations in production. You think about control flow, tool interfaces, memory, and how to know when the loop is wrong. We’re not hiring an API caller.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in English
• Stack: Strongly typed languages.
• • We run C#, Rust and TypeScript, and the list is a proxy for thinking in systems and types rather than a requirement to know all three.
  • Deep fluency in any of C#, Rust, Go, Java or TypeScript and willingness to work across them.
  • AWS, APIs, production systems.
• Walk us through an agentic system you built and shipped, production or serious open source. What the loop did, where it broke, how you evaluated it. If you can’t, this isn’t the role, regardless of seniority.

How we work

• Small senior team, high ownership, fast releases. Eighteen features shipped in August. The team is distributed across the US, Europe and South America, and you’ll work in overlapping hours with US Pacific. Your work lands in a new revenue line within the quarter.
• This role is employed through a local employer of record in your country of residence. Your employment contract, payroll, benefits, and statutory contributions are administered locally in full compliance with local labor law. Your day-to-day work is with the SqlDBM team.
