Senior Back End Engineer (Node.js/TypeScript)

Ciklum is looking for a Senior Back End Engineer (Node.js/TypeScript) to join our team full-time in Slovakia.

About the role:

As a Senior Back End Engineer (Node.js/TypeScript), become a part of a cross-functional development team engineering experiences of tomorrow.

Responsibilities:

• Take full end-to-end ownership of key features in authentication, authorisation, and identity management
• Design and build high-throughput, distributed backend services using NestJS, TypeScript, Kafka, and Redis
• Work hands-on with AI tools daily to accelerate development, improve code quality, and explore new capabilities
• Contribute to architectural decisions and help shape the technical direction of the platform
• Participate in code reviews and give constructive, thoughtful feedback to your teammates
• Support and mentor junior colleagues when the opportunity arises, and share your knowledge openly
• Collaborate closely with product, QA, and DevOps teams on a daily basis
• Show up to stand-ups, planning sessions, and retrospectives with ideas, not just status updates

Requirements:

• 6+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• Strong, production-grade TypeScript and Node.js skills - must have
• Proven experience in high-scale, high-throughput production environments (millions of requests per day) - must have
• Ability to independently lead feature development from design through to deployment - must have
• Active daily use of AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar - must have
• Experience designing and implementing distributed, event-driven architectures
• Hands-on experience with NestJS, Kafka, Redis, and MySQL in production
• Comfortable navigating and improving an existing, mature codebase - not just greenfield projects
• Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines and release practices
• Clear, collaborative communication style - someone the team genuinely enjoys working with

Desirable:

• Familiarity with authentication and identity standards: OAuth 2.0, JWT, SAML, WebAuthn, or SSO
• Experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures
• Background in security-sensitive engineering, or prior experience as a security champion
• Experience with designing and integrating large-scale messaging queue services
• Mentoring or informal technical leadership experience - the team includes junior engineers
• Interest in or background with developer tooling, SaaS platforms, or identity infrastructure

The salary starts from 3400 Euro gross. The final salary depends on the previous experience and professional knowledge of the candidate.
