Senior Back End Engineer

Ciklum is looking for a Senior Back End Engineer to join our team full-time in Bulgaria.

About the role:

As a Senior Back End Engineer, become a part of a cross-functional development team engineering experiences of tomorrow. We're building the financial infrastructure that powers the next generation of B2B commerce. Our platform enables businesses to streamline payments, automate financial workflows, and deliver exceptional purchasing experiences.

Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of the entire software development lifecycle—from ideation and architecture through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing production support
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to long-term technical strategy and platform evolution
• Contribute to how we shift towards agentic software development lifecycle
• Support Balance’s rapid business growth
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, Data teams, fellow engineers and other stakeholders
• Mentor and support fellow engineers through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving

Requirements:

• You’re curious about and actively experimenting with how AI changes Software Development Lifecycle
• 7+ years of experience building production-grade backend applications
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures
• Significant practical experience building distributed systems
• Hands-on experience with large-scale production databases, including PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB
• Strong knowledge of data modeling, indexing, query optimization, and database performance tuning
• Experience working with AWS cloud services
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and/or serverless architectures
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Solid understanding of software architecture, clean code principles, and design patterns
• Experience working in Agile development environments
• Frontend experience with React or similar frameworks is an advantage
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is an advantage
