Position Summary and Responsibilities
 
Working from a home office in Indiana, the Secondary Principal manages a team of assistant principals and teachers as they instruct and support students and learning coaches in a comprehensive virtual charter school. The Secondary Principal is responsible for the school’s operations, including working with parents, students, support staff and certified teachers who virtually facilitate a home-based student instructional program. The Secondary School Principal is part of a larger administration team at Indiana Connections Academy, where grades K-12 are served. The Secondary School Principal reports to the Executive Director.
 
Other key responsibilities include the following:
 
• Manage the implementation of the proven Connections Academy curriculum and school operation protocols;
 
• Ensure the academic success of all students by utilizing all levels of academic support available and by maintaining a high level of communication with parents to deliver program information and address individual student needs;
 
• Ensure that teachers exhibit and maintain a high level of professionalism, instructional support and customer service;
 
• Manage relationships with the Indiana Department of Education, stay current on the state’s policies, procedures and legislation, including specific count day and audit procedures, etc., and accurately submit all required reports and paperwork in a timely manner;
 
• Increase school accountability metrics according to state and Federal requirements;
 
• Work with the school’s K12 Administrators and staff to create, implement, manage, and monitor the School Improvement Plan;
 
• Partner with Pearson Virtual Schools to coordinate marketing, enrollment, curriculum, human resources, and training resources;
 
• Assist teaching staff with implementing any program changes and/or new software application introductions;
 
• Understand and support efficiencies in the school budget;
 
• Exhibit high-quality communication with all Connections Academy school staff, students, and families;
 
• Handle student problems escalated by parents and teachers;
 
• Support and guide the implementation and coordination of the state standardized testing process, and ensure high student participation rates;
 
• Provide assistance to families in need of additional support to encourage a high level of participation;
 
• Participate in student recruitment efforts, including presentations, Q & A sessions, and responding to the press;
 
• Support a robust “school community” through a state-wide program of in-person field trips, student events (ie Prom) and Graduation;
 
• Recruit, supervise, and evaluate all school staff as required by the state;
 
• Serve as a member of the Connections Academy team to develop and evolve best practices for K-12 virtual education; and
 
• All other duties as assigned.
 
Requirements
 
• Administration license required
 
• Minimum of 5 years of education experience and some administrative or management experience
 
• Strong leadership qualities and a commitment to goal-directed management and accountability
 
• An interest in advancing educational delivery through leveraging technology in every aspect of instructional delivery and school management
 
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
 
• Customer-focused approach
 
• Flexible
 
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
 
• Team player
 
• Collaborative
 
• Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite)
 
• Ability to travel to meet the needs of the school and staff, mostly in-state, but some out-of-state travel is required
