About the team - IT Digital Delivery

The Digital Delivery team at GBG is at the heart of transforming how we work, powering the systems, data, and technology that enable our global business to grow, innovate, and serve our customers better. We’re a collaborative, product-centric team of technologists, specialists, and problem solvers who thrive on unlocking value through modern platforms like Salesforce, Ironclad, Hubspot, Power BI and automation tools. The Role - Salesforce Developer

The Salesforce Developer is a hands-on technical expert responsible for shaping how Salesforce is built at GBG from a near-clean slate. Programme Catalyst has left the platform with minimal legacy customisation to unwind — this is a rare chance to establish patterns rather than inherit them. The right person is equally comfortable reaching for Flow or for Apex, and has the judgement to know which one the moment actually calls for.

Working within a small, distributed Salesforce Centre of Excellence (CoE), this role covers solution design, build, and platform ownership across Core, Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, CPQ (SBQQ) and Billing R2 (blng), collaborating closely with the CoE Lead and team on architecture, standards, and delivery.

What you will do

Build & own

• Design and build using whichever tool fits the job — Flow, validation rules, and configuration where that's the right long-term answer; Apex and LWC where genuine complexity demands code.
• Take ownership of a young, largely greenfield codebase — helping set the standard for what “good” looks like, rather than untangling what came before.
• Make deliberate, defensible calls between optimisation and pragmatism: knowing when a quick, sound solution beats an elegant one, and when it doesn't.
• Work within established CoE technical standards and best practices (documented in Confluence) for Apex, Flow, and test coverage.
• Own deployment through Gearset, following the team's environment promotion path with discipline.

Design & solve

• Produce solution designs and technical documentation for platform changes — the emphasis is on designing and documenting how something will be built.
• Run prototypes and technical spikes to de-risk uncertain requirements or test an approach before committing to a build and to bring ideas to life for the business.
• Triage and debug platform issues, tracing root cause across configuration, code, and managed package behaviour rather than just addressing symptoms.
• Contribute to solution design and architecture conversations, bringing a point of view on build approach, not just execution.

AI-enabled delivery

• Bring working exposure to Claude (or comparable AI tooling), with judgement on when AI-assisted approaches genuinely speed up delivery and when they introduce more risk or rework than they save.
• Help the team strike the right balance between speed and quality when deciding where to lean on AI assistance in design, build, or testing.

Support & improve

• Help keep the codebase clean as it grows — flagging when configuration is drifting toward unnecessary complexity, or when code is doing a job declarative tooling should.
• Contribute to automated test coverage where appropriate, with exposure to tools such as Playwright considered a strong plus.

Skills we're looking for

Essential:

• Strong hands-on experience with both programmatic development (Apex, LWC, SOQL) and declarative Salesforce (Flow, validation rules, permission sets) — with genuine judgement on when to use which.
• Experience with Salesforce CPQ and/or Billing packages specifically (managed package quirks, governor limits, and constraints that come with them).
• Experience producing solution designs and technical documentation, rather than functional or user -story-level requirements.
• Comfortable running prototypes or spikes to validate an approach, and confident triaging and debugging complex platform issues.
• Experience using Gearset (or a comparable DevOps tool) to manage deployments across a multi-org promotion path.
• Comfortable owning code quality in the absence of a large existing team or dense peer-review culture — someone who holds their own bar high.
• Strong written communication — comfortable documenting decisions and designs async, for a team that isn't always online at the same time.
• Experience working in a small, distributed team across multiple geographies, cultures, and time zones, with the flexibility that requires.

Desirable:

• Working exposure to Claude or similar AI-assisted development tooling, with a view on where it genuinely adds value in a Salesforce delivery context.
• Experience producing automated test suites; exposure to Playwright or similar tools is a strong plus.
• Relevant Salesforce certifications (Platform Developer, CPQ Specialist, or equivalent).
• Prior experience in a Salesforce CoE or product-centric delivery model.
• Exposure to Sales Cloud and/or Service Cloud alongside CPQ/Billing.
