JOB TITLE:
REMOTE SAFETY INTERN
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Remote Safety Intern will be responsible for handling tasks assigned by the Safety Department, including supporting ongoing projects, reviewing and analyzing data, implementing and maintaining safety protocols, developing new, and expand on existing, systems and processes that support strategic safety initiatives, and completing any assignments required as part of the internship program. This individual will report to an assigned member of the Safety Department. The ideal candidate will be well organized, detail oriented, self-directed, interact with project-based teams and have an understanding of construction-related practices and policies. Preferably, the individual will be striving for a career in construction, safety, risk management, or related field.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide maintenance of online safety management system;
- Set up new projects and personnel.
- Provide new-user training for contractors and Power personnel on software.
- Develop and distribute periodic compliance reports to applicable stakeholders and follow up with any open items to ensure compliance and consistency;
- Reviewing of all Power and subcontractor site safety documentation (safety plans, JHAs, certifications, etc.);
- Work with project teams on upcoming work to request updated plans from subs and create for self-perform.
- Create project-specific startup guide for contractors and project teams with clear instruction of their responsibilities from project award to daily operations, and in between.
- Request, receive, and review safety data sheets (SDS) and flag any high-risk materials based on provided application and parameters.
- Assist in developing, revising and conducting employee/subcontractor safety training, including user guides of common processes, toolbox talks, and safety webinars;
- Assist in resolution of safety observations through communication with contractors and project teams on open items and/or recurring behaviors. Conduct audits of required contractor safety inspections;
- Relay safety-related communication and provide support to required parties (i.e. project teams);
- Program and document development and revision as required;
- Assist in evaluation of company and contractor safety performance and selection. Work with risk department to correlate leading and lagging indicators within our system and the industry;
- Provide feedback and recommendations to Safety Department based on analysis of existing data;
- Additional assignments by Supervisor’s discretion; and
- Provide weekly status reports and logs of all active responsibilities via call with supervisor.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Current full-time student working to complete a Safety and Health Degree from an accredited program;
- Ability to log 10-15 hours per week on assigned projects;
- Passion for safety, construction, and injury/accident prevention;
- Strong organization, communication and prioritization skills;
- Self-starter with the ability to schedule and efficiently support teams;
- Ability to assume responsibility and interface well with teams;
- Problem solving ability;
- Attention to detail;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, capture and organize videos and photos, etc.;
- Access to high-speed internet.
SALARY DETAILS:
Salary Range: $18/hr - $28/hr
