We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented EOIR Removal Defense Paralegal to support our attorneys in removal defense matters before the Immigration Courts.
This position is ideal for an experienced immigration professional who can manage removal defense cases, prepare filings, communicate effectively with clients, and assist attorneys in preparing cases for hearings.
Minimum Requirements
- At least one - two (1-2) year of immigration law/removal defense experience, in EOIR.
- Experience using EOIR's ECAS portal and understanding Immigration Court filing procedures.
- Experience managing cases in **Docketwise or other similar CRM **
- Proficiency with:
- Adobe Acrobat
- Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Cloud-based document management systems
- Legal and client management software
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.
Language Requirements
Candidates must be able to communicate professionally with clients in at least one of the following languages:
Translators will be provided when necessary.
Primary Responsibilities
Removal Defense Case Management
- Manage removal defense cases from intake through final adjudication.
- Maintain accurate case records in Docketwise and firm systems.
- Track deadlines, court dates, biometrics appointments, and filing deadlines.
- Coordinate document collection and evidence gathering from clients.
EOIR & ECAS Responsibilities
- Log into and navigate EOIR ECAS.
- Upload filings, exhibits, and supporting evidence.
- Monitor court notices and updates.
- Download and organize EOIR correspondence and court documents.
- Ensure all filings are submitted timely and accurately.
Application Preparation
Prepare attorney-reviewed drafts of documents and applications including, but not limited to:
- EOIR-42B (Cancellation of Removal for Non-Permanent Residents)
- Form I-589 (Asylum and Withholding of Removal)
- U-Visa Applications
- Employment Authorization Applications
- Motions to Continue
- Motions to Change Venue
- Motions to Reopen
- Motions to Terminate
- Prosecutorial Discretion Requests/Admin Close Motions
- Other removal defense and humanitarian applications
Motion Preparation
- Draft motions, cover letters, exhibit indexes, and supporting documentation.
- Assemble filing packets for attorney review.
- Prepare service certificates and filing confirmations.
- Ensure filings comply with EOIR requirements and deadlines.
Individual Hearing Preparation
- Prepare cases for Individual Hearings and Master Calendar Hearings.
- Organize evidence packets and exhibit binders.
- Prepare witness and document lists.
- Assist attorneys with hearing preparation and case strategy implementation.
- Review files to ensure completeness before hearings.
Client Communication
- Conduct client follow-ups and document requests.
- Maintain regular communication with clients regarding case progress.
- Schedule meetings and attorney consultations.
- Assist clients with gathering evidence and supporting documentation.
- Provide exceptional client service and professionalism at all times.
Administrative Support
- Maintain internal case notes and workflow updates.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
- Support attorneys and legal staff with case-related projects.
- Perform quality control reviews on case files.
- Complete additional immigration-related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing EOIR-42B applications.
- Experience preparing asylum applications and supporting evidence.
- Familiarity with USCIS, ICE, and Immigration Court procedures.
- Experience working in a high-volume immigration law firm.
- Strong written English skills.
Compensation & Benefits
- Up to USD $1,000 per month
- Full-time remote position
- 10 days Paid Time Off (PTO) annually
- PTO eligibility begins after six (6) months of employment
- Paid national holidays observed by DM Legal when the firm is closed
