Purpose of Role 

 

This role is accountable for driving day-to-day delivery execution across the S/4 Transformation Programme, ensuring that multiple workstreams execute in a coordinated, outcome-driven, and time-bound manner. 

 

Operating within the overall direction, governance framework, and integrated plan set by the Programme Director, this role requires a hands-on delivery leader who can drive execution at scale, unblock complex issues rapidly, and maintain momentum across a large, multi-workstream transformation. 

 

The role focuses on ensuring delivery happens—embedding strong execution discipline, maintaining clear ownership within workstreams, and driving progress against agreed milestones and outcomes. 

 

 

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities  

 

Programme Delivery & Execution  

  • Drive day-to-day execution across all workstreams, ensuring alignment to programme milestones 

  • Ensure delivery milestones are met within agreed scope, time, and quality parameters 

  • Intervene in underperforming workstreams and lead corrective and recovery actions 

  • Ensure clarity of deliverables, ownership, and accountability at workstream level 

 

Leadership of Workstream Delivery  

  • Lead and coordinate 10–20+ workstream leads, ensuring alignment and delivery focus 

  • Establish scalable mechanisms to track performance and enforce accountability 

  • Build a high-performance delivery culture focused on pace, ownership, and outcomes 

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of delivery teams, including PMO delivery support 

 

Integrated Planning & Dependency Management 

  • Drive execution in line with the integrated programme plan defined by the Programme Director 

  • Identify, manage, and resolve cross-workstream dependencies and sequencing challenges 

  • Ensure workstreams are aligned across business, technology, and third-party delivery teams 

  • Escalate critical dependency risks with clear recommendations and resolution options 

 

Decisioning & Issue Resolution  

  • Drive rapid resolution of delivery issues and blockers within workstreams 

  • Remove barriers to delivery and maintain programme momentum 

  • Escalate critical risks and issues to the Programme Director, providing clear, action-oriented recommendations 

 

Programme Performance & Recovery 

  • Track delivery performance across workstreams against agreed milestones and KPIs 

  • Identify emerging risks to delivery and take proactive mitigation actions 

  • Lead workstream-level recovery planning and execution when delivery deviates from plan 

 

Stakeholder & Executive Engagement 

  • Drive alignment and engagement across workstream leads and delivery teams 

  • Support executive decision-making by providing clear, data-driven delivery insights and recommendations 

  • Ensure consistent, transparent communication of delivery progress and risks 

 

Third Party& Supplier Delivery Oversight 

  • Manage day-to-day delivery performance of third-party suppliers within workstreams 

  • Hold delivery partners accountable for milestones, outputs, and quality at execution level 

  • Identify and escalate vendor performance issues to the Programme Director where required 

 

Financial & Delivery Controls 

  • Track and manage workstream-level budgets, forecasts, and cost performance 

  • Provide accurate financial inputs into overall programme cost tracking and governance 

  • Ensure delivery teams operate within agreed financial and resource boundaries 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Capability and Experience 

 

 

Essential 

  • Proven track record (10+ years) of driving delivery within large-scale, multi-workstream transformation programmes (£50m+) 

  • Demonstrable experience:  

  • Driving execution rather than PMO coordination 

  • Leading 10+ concurrent workstreams in complex environments 

  • Delivering ERP / S/4 or equivalent enterprise-wide transformation programmes 

  • Strong evidence of:  

  • Delivering milestones and outcomes under pressure 

  • Leading recovery actions within large-scale programmes 

  • Operating effectively in ambiguous, high-complexity environments 

  • Deep expertise in:  

  • Execution across integrated programmes 

  • Dependency management and sequencing 

  • Cross-functional and cross-geography delivery alignment 

  • Experience managing:  

  • Third-party delivery at an operational level within multi-vendor environments 

  • Workstream-level financial tracking and forecasting 

 

Leadership Style Required 

  • Operates with a delivery-first mindset, prioritising outcomes over process 

  • Comfortable leading at scale without reliance on 1:1 management structures 

  • Holds teams accountable and drives clarity, pace, and ownership 

  • Demonstrates resilience in high-pressure, high-visibility delivery environments 

  • Strong bias for action, problem-solving, and removing blockers 

 

Nice to Have (but not defining) 

  • Experience of PMO or governance environments (as a supporting capability) 

  • Familiarity with SAP S/4 and SAP Activate methodology 

  • Experience in multi-party (client, SI, vendor) delivery models 

  • Familiarity with programme delivery tools (e.g. Jira, Agile tools) 

  • Relevant certifications (PMP, MSP, PRINCE2, Agile)
