Director of Programs

This position supports HealthCorps’ Midwest/Appalachia region, including West Virginia, Cleveland, OH, Pittsburgh, PA, and Southwest Ohio. Additional regional responsibilities may evolve as the program expands. 

 Are you a visionary leader passionate about empowering the next generation and creating systemic change in health education? HealthCorps’ is seeking an experienced Director of Programs to lead regional operations throughout West Virginia and the Midwest/Appalachia region. This leadership role will oversee multi-state program implementation, supervise regional staff, cultivate strategic partnerships, and provide operational leadership for a growing portfolio that includes significant federally funded initiatives. The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing multi-site teams, administering federal grants, and building strong partnerships with school districts, community organizations, and funders.

Where You Fit In

We are seeking a seasoned program leader to oversee HealthCorps’ expanding Midwest/Appalachia portfolio, with an initial focus on launching and managing a significant federally funded initiative in West Virginia. This role requires an experienced professional who can lead regional teams, manage complex grant-funded programming, build strategic partnerships, and ensure operational excellence across multiple sites. 

As Director of Programs, you will provide leadership to Regional Program Managers and Regional Program Coordinators while partnering closely with senior leadership to implement federal grant requirements, support program expansion, and drive measurable outcomes that advance HealthCorps’’ mission. This position will play a key leadership role in launching a significant new federal initiative and supporting the future expansion of HealthCorps’ programming throughout the region. 

What You'll Do

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach and develop Regional Program Managers and Regional Program Coordinators across multiple states, ensuring high-quality program delivery, accountability and professional development. 
  • Provide direct coaching on program implementation, community partnerships, and stakeholder engagement
  • Conduct regular site visits to program locations for coaching, feedback, and stakeholder relationship building
  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning across the regional team

Strategic Partnerships & Regional Relationships

  • Build and maintain high-level relationships with school districts, funders, community organizations, and key stakeholders
  • Support Regional Program Managers in identifying and securing program growth opportunities
  • Support funder relationship management, including grant reporting and submission activities
  • Lead implementation and oversight of federally funded programs, ensuring compliance with all grant requirements, timelines, reporting obligations, and performance metrics.
  • Partner with executive leadership to monitor grant deliverables, budgets and program outcomes.
  • Ensure all regional staff understand and comply with federal grant regulations and reporting expectations. 
  • Represent HealthCorps’ at district-level meetings, community events, and strategic planning sessions

National Collaboration & Systems Development

  • Collaborate with a national team of directors to develop synchronized systems, resources, and best practices
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of standardized program delivery models
  • Share regional insights and innovations to inform national program strategy
  • Participate in national director meetings, training, and strategic planning initiatives

Program Quality & Growth

  • Ensure consistent, high-quality program delivery across all regional sites
  • Monitor program outcomes and impact metrics to drive continuous improvement
  • Support the development and execution of regional program expansion strategies
  • Maintain oversight of regional budget management and resource allocation

Community Engagement & Stakeholder Relations

  • Serve as a key point of contact for regional funders and major community partners
  • Support community engagement initiatives and public representation of HealthCorps’
  • Facilitate cross-sector partnerships to amplify program impact and sustainability

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • Experience: 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in youth development, education, public health, nonprofit leadership, or related field. 
  • Grant Management: Demonstrated experience managing federal or other large public grant funded programs.
  • Team Management: 5+ years of experience leading programs and managing teams across multiple sites or regions. Proven success supervising multiple direct reports, driving results through others, and leading geographically dispersed teams.
  • Youth Programming: Significant experience leading youth development, school-based, or education-focused initiatives, with a proven ability to build strong partnerships with school districts, community organizations, and public-sector partners.
  • Relationship Management: Demonstrated success building and maintaining relationships with funders, school districts, and community stakeholders
  • Budgeting Experience: Experience managing regional operating budgets and grant funded program budgets.

  • Partnership Building: Exceptional relationship management skills with diverse stakeholders including educators, funders, and community leaders
  • Grant Management: Experience with funder relations, grant reporting, and funding development activities
  • Federal Grant Administration: Demonstrated experience administering federally funded grants, including compliance, monitoring, reporting, performance measurement, documentation, and collaboration with funding agencies. 
  • Communication: Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation skills for diverse audiences
  • Systems Thinking: Ability to work collaboratively within national frameworks while adapting to local needs
  • Problem-Solving: Proven ability to navigate complex challenges in resource-limited environments
  • Cultural Competency: Demonstrated success working with diverse communities and populations

Physical & Logistical Requirements

  • Travel: Approximately 15-25% travel time across the regional territory
  • Transportation: Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for local and regional travel
  • Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, data management systems, and virtual collaboration tools
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 15 pounds and work extended hours as needed for events and site visits
  • Flexibility: Available for occasional evening, weekend, or overnight travel for regional events and national meetings

Competitive Salary 

This is a full-time exempt position with an anticipated annual salary range of $60,000-$75,000, depending on qualifications, relevant experience, demonstrated leadership, and federal grant management expertise. HealthCorps offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, paid time off, life insurance, a 401(k) with company match, and ancillary benefits. Yearly compensation for this role is determined based on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and geographic location. 

Remote Opportunity with Occasional Travel

Remote position with occasional evening hours, periodic overnight travel, and required attendance at in-person company meetings up to two times per year.
