Principal, Interoperability Standards & Product Strategy
This is a full-time position and not open to contract work.
Team Overview
The Principal, Interoperability Standards & Product Strategy serves as b.well's technical and standards authority at the intersection of product development and the broader healthcare interoperability ecosystem. This role ensures that b.well's platform remains at the forefront of evolving FHIR-based standards, regulatory frameworks, and industry initiatives — while actively shaping those standards through external engagement.
You will serve as the primary bridge between the Product Management and Engineering teams internally, and between b.well and external standards bodies (HL7, FHIR, ONC, NCQA, CMS, TEFCA governance, and industry collaboratives) externally. As b.well rapidly expands its CMS-Aligned Network participation and deepens its AI-powered interoperability capabilities, this role will be critical to ensuring the platform evolves in alignment with both current and emerging standards.
What You'll Do
- Standards Representation & Advocacy: Represent b.well in external industry groups including HL7 working groups, ONC initiatives, TEFCA governance bodies, FHIR implementation guide development efforts, and payer/provider industry collaboratives
- FHIR Implementation Leadership: Serve as the internal subject matter expert on FHIR R4/R5, SMART on FHIR, SQL on FHIR, US Core, USCDI, and emerging implementation guides (e.g., HEDIS IG, FAST, Da Vinci, CARIN)
- Product-Standards Alignment: Translate evolving standards, regulatory requirements (21st Century Cures Act, CMS Interoperability Rules, TEFCA, Information Blocking), and industry trends into actionable product requirements and roadmap inputs
- Cross-Functional Integration: Act as a technical liaison between Product Management, Engineering, Clinical Strategy, and Network Enablement to ensure interoperability capabilities are consistent, standards-compliant, and scalable
- Regulatory Intelligence: Monitor and interpret emerging CMS rules, ONC regulations, and payer-to-payer/provider access policies, proactively advising leadership on product and network implications
- Data Quality & Validation Frameworks: Design and maintain frameworks for evaluating FHIR data quality, clinical terminology correctness, and compliance with standards profiles across partner connections
- Thought Leadership & External Presence: Represent b.well as a credible voice in industry conferences, webinars, and collaboratives; develop white papers, public comments, and speaking content that elevates b.well's position as a standards leader
- Partner & Client Enablement: Support network partner onboarding with standards-focused technical guidance, working in close coordination with the Director, Network Enablement
Job Requirements

- Direct experience with regulatory and compliance frameworks including CMS Patient Access Rule, Payer-to-Payer, 21st Century Cures Act, HEDIS, and EHR certification requirements
- Demonstrated experience contributing to or leading HL7/FHIR implementation guide development or industry standards working groups
- Proven ability to translate complex technical standards into product strategy, business requirements, and stakeholder communications
- Active presence in and relationships with the healthcare interoperability community (HL7, ONC, TEFCA, NCQA, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication for technical, clinical, and executive audiences
Desired Experience
- Experience in payer, provider, health IT vendor, or standards organization environments
- Experience with HEDIS digital quality measures and data aggregator validation
- Familiarity with AI/ML applications in healthcare data, health AI safety, and clinical NLP
