Overview

The casual hire will provide specialized HR technical support to strengthen the organization’s capacity to manage complex employee relations matters, build HR staff capability in workplace investigations, finalize key global HR documentation, and support priority HR projects as they arise. The role is intended to provide flexible, senior-level support for discrete assignments requiring strong judgment, confidentiality, practical HR expertise, and experience working in international nonprofit or INGO environments.

 

DURATION: Mid-September 2026 through March 2027.

HOURS PER DAY/WEEK: Up to 20 hours per week, based on assignment needs and agreed priorities.

Responsibilities

Scope of Activities:

  • Support complex workplace investigations: Assist with the planning, coordination, documentation, and completion of complex workplace investigations, including reviewing background materials, helping develop investigation plans, drafting interview questions, supporting evidence organization, preparing summaries of findings, and advising on appropriate documentation standards. Support will be provided in alignment with applicable policies, confidentiality requirements, and guidance from HR leadership and/or legal counsel as appropriate.
  • Train HR staff on workplace investigations: Design and facilitate practical training for HR staff on how to conduct workplace investigations in a fair, consistent, and well-documented manner. Training may include investigation intake and triage, roles and responsibilities, interview techniques, credibility assessment, confidentiality, documentation, report writing, common risks, and when to escalate matters to senior HR leadership or legal counsel.
  • Finalize the Global HR Manual template: Review and refine the Global HR Manual template to ensure clarity, consistency, completeness, and usability across country offices. This may include strengthening language, aligning sections with global HR standards, identifying gaps or duplicative content, improving structure and formatting, and preparing the template for final review and rollout.
  • Support priority HR projects: Provide ad hoc support for HR projects that may arise during the assignment period. This may include drafting or reviewing HR guidance, supporting policy or process development, preparing briefing materials, contributing to templates or tools, reviewing employee relations documentation, and providing technical input on other HR initiatives as requested.

Expected Deliverables:

  • Investigation support materials, summaries, documentation, or draft reports, as assigned.
  • Workplace investigation training materials, including slide deck, facilitator notes, case examples, or practical tools as appropriate.
  • Revised and finalized Global HR Manual template ready for leadership review or implementation.
  • Project-specific HR tools, draft communications, guidance documents, templates, or briefing notes as requested.
  • Periodic updates to HR leadership on progress, risks, dependencies, and recommended next steps.

Ways of Working:

The casual hire will work under the direction of designated HR leadership and will be expected to maintain strict confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, meet agreed deadlines, and communicate proactively regarding progress and any issues requiring escalation. Work may be completed remotely unless otherwise agreed, with meetings scheduled as needed to support assignment planning, review, and completion.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience providing international HR support in an INGO, nonprofit, or comparable global operating environment.
  • At least 10 years of senior-level HR experience, including experience handling complex employee relations matters, workplace investigations, policy development, and HR advisory support.

 

The hourly rate range for this role is expected to be: $52.79 - $68.74

If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines:JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
