A Day in the Life   

As a Principal Consultant on our Strategy and Growth team, you will turn client needs, industry trends and emerging opportunities into focused actions that position Onterris to win and grow. You will connect expertise across the business, shape high-value pursuits and bring the right people and capabilities together to deliver compelling, integrated solutions for our clients.

 

Success in this role requires a collaborative, enterprise mindset. You will build alignment around priority initiatives, strengthen client relationships and help teams move from opportunity identification through strategy, pursuit and delivery. 

  • Identify, qualify and advance strategic initiatives and pursuits that align with Onterris growth priorities

  • Leverage existing relationships and build new connections to expand work with current clients and create new opportunities 

  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of priority pursuits, partnering with our Market Sector, Key Client Leader, and business development teams to collaborate on ownership, next steps, and growth potential  

  • Support pursuit strategy, including opportunity qualification, go/no-go decisions, positioning, teaming and capture planning 

  • Bring together expertise across Consulting, Treatment, Measurements and Analysis to develop integrated solutions that address complex client needs 

  • Build a clear understanding of addressable opportunities, competitive dynamics, unmet client needs and areas where Onterris can differentiate 

  • Partner with our Key Client Leaders and business development teams to develop strategic account plans for priority clients and identify accounts with the potential to become long-term key clients 

  • Identify ways to build and strengthen strategic partnerships, including joint ventures, prime/subcontractor relationships and other teaming arrangements that improve our ability to compete and win 

  • Partner with Legal and other internal teams to evaluate contractual requirements, teaming agreements, non-disclosure agreements and other pursuit-related considerations 

  • Serve as Key Client Leader (KCL) for select accounts as part of the Onterris Key Client Program (KCP), where appropriate 

  • Support KCLs in strengthening account strategies, identifying growth opportunities and connecting the right capabilities across Onterris 

  • Partner with business leaders and client teams to support contract renewals, expansions and new programs 

  • Collaborate with Proposal teams and subject matter experts to develop compelling, differentiated responses to strategic opportunities 

  • Maintain visibility into pursuit activity, pipeline health, client engagement and key growth indicators, using data to guide priorities and action 

  • Develop a deep understanding of client challenges through discovery conversations, relationship building and continued engagement with their industries 

  • Shape clear, integrated value propositions that connect Onterris capabilities to the outcomes clients need 

  • Increase Onterris visibility in priority areas through coordinated thought leadership, conferences, industry engagement and client-facing activity 

  • Partner with Marketing to strengthen pursuit positioning, client messaging and thought leadership that supports business development 

  • Build trusted, collaborative relationships across teams and encourage strong communication around strategic initiatives, client needs and emerging opportunities 

  • Stay informed on relevant industry trends, technologies, regulations and market developments that could create new opportunities or change client priorities 

  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, bringing perspective, expertise and a connected view of the challenges they face 

  • Create strong internal communication and knowledge-sharing around priority pursuits so teams stay aligned, informed and ready to act 

  • Identify capability, capacity or geographic gaps that could affect future opportunities and help shape plans to address them 

  • Capture lessons from pursuits and client engagements to continually strengthen how Onterris identifies, positions and competes for opportunities 

 

Your Expertise and Skills 

These requirements reflect the experience, judgment and leadership that will help you make an impact in this role. 

  • 15+ years of experience in environmental consulting, professional services or a related industry, with a strong track record of leading strategic growth, pursuits or major client accounts 

  • Demonstrated success developing and advancing complex, high-value opportunities from early identification through capture and award 

  • Strong client and industry relationships, with the ability to build credibility quickly and expand networks over time 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Science or a related technical or business field; MBA or advanced degree preferred, not required 

  • Proven ability to lead in a matrixed organization, influence without direct authority and bring diverse teams together around shared priorities 

  • Strong strategic thinking and commercial judgment, with the ability to connect client needs, market dynamics and Onterris capabilities 

  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with a commitment to developing others and building strong teams 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate a clear value proposition to clients, partners and internal stakeholders 

  • Experience developing pursuit strategies, account plans, forecasts and pipelines, with proficiency in customer relationship management systems such as Salesforce 

  • Ability to evaluate opportunities objectively, focus resources on the pursuits that matter most and make clear recommendations 

  • A proactive, growth-oriented mindset with the confidence to challenge assumptions, create momentum and pursue new ways to win 

  • Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment 

  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 50%
