AI Summary

You will lead the Application Modernization engineering team, setting technical direction and standards while mentoring staff. Additionally, you will design modernization projects, support pre-sales efforts, and own technical risk for client engagements.

About the role

DFX5 is an AWS partner that designs, builds and runs cloud, data and AI solutions for companies across Latin America. We are looking for a Practice Lead for AM3, our Application Modernization, Migration & Managed Services practice.

We want a software engineer first. You have spent years writing and shipping production code, you have taken legacy applications apart and rebuilt them as cloud-native systems on AWS, and now you want to lead the team that does it for our customers.

You will own the practice: the engineers in it, the modernization offerings we sell, the code and assets we reuse across projects, and the technical quality of every engagement. You will report to our CTO and work with Sales, Delivery Management and the other practice leads (CX, Data/AI, QA).

This is a hands-on role. You will review pull requests and architecture decisions, pair with engineers on hard problems, and take the technical lead on key engagements when they need it.

What you'll do

  • Lead the AM3 engineering team: technical direction, code and design standards, staffing, mentoring and career growth.
  • Design and lead application modernization projects: breaking monoliths into services, moving legacy .NET and Java applications to containers and serverless, re-architecting data access, and replacing batch processes with event-driven flows.
  • Build reusable assets for the practice (reference architectures, starter repositories, IaC modules, CI/CD templates, demos) tied to real verticals, customers and opportunities.
  • Support pre-sales: assess customer codebases and architectures, design the target solution, estimate effort and help write proposals and statements of work, together with Sales and AWS account teams.
  • Own technical risk on AM3 projects: review designs and code, unblock teams and handle technical escalations with customers.
  • Bring AI-assisted development into how the practice builds and modernizes software.
  • Drive the AWS partner programs that cover the practice (Migration and Modernization competencies, MAP) and set a certification plan with real exam dates for each engineer.
  • Hire engineers for the practice and give them clear, regular feedback.
  • Report practice health to leadership: utilization, certifications, assets delivered and project status.

What you bring

  • 8+ years as a software engineer building production systems, including 3+ years leading engineering teams, ideally in consulting or professional services.
  • Strong coding skills in at least one of Java, C#/.NET, TypeScript/Node.js or Python, and the habit of reading and reviewing other people's code.
  • Hands-on experience modernizing legacy applications: decomposing monoliths, refactoring for the cloud, and migrating databases with minimal downtime.
  • Deep AWS experience building applications: Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, ECS or EKS, Aurora and DynamoDB.
  • Infrastructure as Code (CDK, Terraform or CloudFormation), CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and observability in production.
  • Experience scoping, estimating and presenting technical solutions to engineering and executive audiences.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional (required). AWS Certified Developer Associate or DevOps Engineer Professional is a plus.
  • Experience with large migration programs (MAP, VMware, SAP on AWS) or managed services is a plus.
  • Fluent Spanish and fluent English, written and spoken. Our customers are across LATAM and part of the team works in English.

Why DFX5

  • You build a practice, not only a project list: the offerings, assets and team are yours to shape.
  • Direct access to the CTO and to AWS partner teams.
  • Budgeted study hours for AWS certifications (up to 90 hours for a Professional exam).
  • Remote role, with a team spread across Latin America working with customers in the region.
