The engineer will monitor, maintain, and optimize AWS cloud infrastructure, including EC2, RDS, and Kubernetes environments. They will also support DevOps pipelines, security monitoring, and the migration of legacy applications to the cloud.
Bridgecross LLC is seeking an experienced Part-Time Cloud Systems Engineer to support a federal customer within the NOAA environment. The engineer will support the operation, security, maintenance, optimization, and continued development of AWS cloud infrastructure supporting mission-critical scientific and technical applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor AWS cloud resources, systems, applications, logs, and key processes.
- Support EC2, RDS, EFS, S3, CloudWatch, Kubernetes, storage, and load balancing.
- Administer and support AWS GovCloud environments.
- Perform Linux maintenance, patching, upgrades, and configuration.
- Conduct security monitoring and support vulnerability remediation.
- Verify backups and scheduled system jobs.
- Manage authorized user accounts and access.
- Provide Tier III troubleshooting and technical support.
- Support DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and cloud deployments.
- Support Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS Fargate environments.
- Work with IAM and federation technologies including SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, and Okta.
- Support cloud modernization and migration of legacy applications.
- Analyze AWS usage and recommend cost and performance optimizations.
- Maintain technical documentation and coordinate with technical stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience supporting cloud platforms.
- Hands-on AWS administration experience.
- Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, web/application servers, storage, caching, networking, and load balancing.
- Experience with EC2, S3, CloudWatch, PostgreSQL, and related AWS services.
- Linux administration experience.
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, automation, Docker, and/or Kubernetes.
- Understanding of IAM and cloud federation technologies.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a distributed technical team.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS GovCloud or federal cloud experience.
- AWS Fargate and Kubernetes experience.
- Experience containerizing legacy applications.
- Experience with NIST, FISMA, or federal cybersecurity requirements.
- Experience supporting mission-critical, scientific, geospatial, or data-intensive systems.
- AWS certification such as Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or DevOps Engineer.
Work Environment
Work may be performed remotely or at the NOAA facility in Silver Spring, MD, depending on customer requirements. The position requires use of Government-furnished equipment and compliance with applicable federal, DOC, NOAA, and customer cybersecurity requirements.
Candidates may be required to complete Government personnel security screening and mandatory federal security training.
