Hiring a Senior/Principal Change Management Consultant

Job Description

This temporary, project-based Senior/Principal Change Management Consultant role focuses on leading organizational transformation initiatives within a complex corporate environment. You will partner closely with business leaders, project teams, and stakeholders to design and execute change management strategies that drive adoption, minimize disruption, and ensure successful implementation of business, process, technology, and system changes. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will serve as a recognized subject matter expert, influencing strategic decisions and supporting enterprise-wide transformation efforts that improve business performance and employee experience.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with project teams and business leaders to understand project objectives, scope, and desired outcomes for change initiatives.
  • Evaluate the impact of organizational, process, technology, and system changes on employees, teams, and business operations.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive change management plans, including timelines, milestones, communication strategies, training plans, and success measures.
  • Align change management activities with overall project goals and broader business priorities to ensure cohesive execution.
  • Identify and assess stakeholders impacted by change initiatives, including leaders, managers, and employees across the organization.
  • Build and implement stakeholder engagement strategies that foster awareness, support, and adoption of new processes and systems.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor to project sponsors and executive leadership.
  • Create and implement communication strategies that provide clear, consistent, and timely messaging throughout the change lifecycle.
  • Develop communication materials such as presentations, newsletters, email campaigns, FAQs, and leadership talking points to support change adoption.
  • Coordinate and facilitate training programs, workshops, and learning sessions to prepare employees for upcoming changes.
  • Equip leaders and managers with tools, resources, and guidance to effectively communicate and lead change within their teams.
  • Conduct organizational impact and readiness assessments to identify risks, barriers, and gaps that may hinder successful adoption.
  • Develop mitigation plans to address resistance, improve readiness, and support sustained behavior change.
  • Gather employee feedback and measure change effectiveness through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and other assessment tools.
  • Analyze results and stakeholder input to recommend improvements and adjustments to change strategies and implementation plans.
  • Partner with project teams to execute change initiatives and support implementation activities across functions and locations.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to employees, managers, and leaders during periods of transition to help them navigate change effectively.
  • Facilitate meetings, workshops, focus groups, and change forums to build understanding, alignment, and commitment.
  • Monitor adoption of new processes and practices, identify areas requiring additional support, and help ensure sustained implementation.
  • Assess business challenges related to organizational effectiveness and recommend organizational development solutions.
  • Support leadership development through coaching, training, and best-practice recommendations focused on leading change.
  • Contribute to organizational design, process improvement, and team effectiveness initiatives aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Advise leaders on change readiness, team performance, and organizational effectiveness strategies that drive long-term success.
  • Maintain project documentation, lessons learned, and change management records in an organized and accessible manner.
  • Prepare regular progress reports, status updates, and executive summaries that clearly communicate change progress and outcomes.
  • Measure and communicate the overall success and impact of change initiatives using established metrics and performance indicators.
  • Drive adoption and engagement for key business initiatives to support enterprise-wide transformation efforts.
  • Help employees successfully navigate change by providing support, resources, and clear guidance throughout the transition.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in change management, organizational development, business transformation, or related consulting roles.
  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of change management methodologies, frameworks, and best practices, such as Prosci, ADKAR, or similar approaches.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale change initiatives within complex corporate organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling messages for diverse audiences.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills, with experience leading workshops, training sessions, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Advanced stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build trust across all organizational levels, including executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to interpret data, identify trends, and recommend actionable solutions.

Work Environment

This role operates in a remote work environment, allowing you to work from any time zone while collaborating virtually with leaders, project teams, and stakeholders. The position is structured around a standard 40-hour work week, with flexibility to align your schedule to project needs and stakeholder availability. You will leverage digital communication, collaboration, and change management tools to facilitate workshops, deliver training, and manage documentation in a fully remote setting. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $110.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
