The Hardware Engineering Team provides engineering design & development services to a wide range of products within Raytheon.  The Critical Item Production Readiness (CPR) department is dedicated to ensuring that every product we develop is designed with its entire production lifecycle in mind. By integrating principles of manufacturability, assembly, scalability, and cost management, we aim to achieve production excellence while meeting the highest standards of quality and reliability. 

The CPR Department is seeking a New Product Hardware Engineering Lead. This individual will partner closely with Development Program Chief Engineers (CEs), Integrated Product Team Leads (IPTLs), Responsible Engineering Authorities (REAs), and cross-functional teammates to drive NPI and producibility efforts, ensuring predictable and high‑quality performance in production on a program.

What You Will Do 

  • Identify and drive Critical Item and Technology (CIT) action plans to closure throughout hardware development to increase product and process maturity during the development phase on a program

  • Lead implementation of NPI requirements, including Design‑to‑Cost, Design for Excellence/Producibility, prototyping, and supplier technical risk mitigation on a program
    Develop and document the Producibility and Prototyping strategy within the Hardware Development Plan on a program

  • Ensure timely and effective execution of Producibility, Prototyping, and Supplier Technical Support activities starting in development and into early production on a program
    Support or facilitate Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) workshops to identify Cost Reduction Opportunities (CROs) and drive execution of Cost Reduction Initiatives (CRIs) on a program

  • Baseline and monitor risks and opportunities related to predictive manufacturing yield, cost, and throughput for Critical Items and Technologies using Valor DFM, PCAT Pro, DFMPro, Siemens VSA, CETOL, and other hardware optimization tools on a program
    Drive identification of Critical and Key Characteristics and implement/manage production Control Plans to manage technical risks to production on a program

  • Ensure robust supplier capability assessments, supplier selection, technical requirements understanding, and production readiness on a program to meet cost, quality, and schedule needs

  • Deliver proactive supplier support by conducting onsite visits, driving clear communication between stakeholders and suppliers, resolving supplier requests and manufacturing defects, and reviewing supplier data and lessons learned to advance continuous improvement in manufacturing, assembly, test, and inspection

  • Serve as a liaison between CPR Section Leaders, Program CEs, IPTLs, Producibility Engineers, and cross‑functional teams to maintain consistent communication, alignment, and program execution

  • Collaborate with the CE, IPTLs, and REAs to prepare for NPI assessments and manage associated actions on a program
    Compile producibility artifacts, generate memos, and present producibility analysis to the customer when contractually required

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 8 years of professional engineering experience, or an advanced degree with 5 years of professional engineering experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in hardware development, sourcing, manufacturing process development, and production support for new hardware designs

  • Working knowledge of the hardware engineering development process for defense products

  • Experience in risk and opportunity management, including development and execution of effective handling plans

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government–issued security clearance U.S. citizenship (required for security clearance eligibility) and willingness to travel to suppliers

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience executing across the full development lifecycle, including independently developing and carrying out robust engineering development and producibility plans

  • Working knowledge of producibility engineering for hardware development and early production

  • Experience generating and releasing supplier management requirements and Statements of Work (SSOWs)

  • Understanding of AS9145 Advanced Product Quality Planning

  • Background in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)

  • Background in Design to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC)

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
