SUMMARY OF ROLE

The Gaza Medical Evacuation Initiative is a humanitarian programme led by the Irish Government in collaboration with the Health Service Executive (HSE), Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) and the Irish Red Cross (IRC). The initiative supports children evacuated from Gaza for specialised medical treatment in Ireland, together with their immediate families.

The IRC provides comprehensive non-medical support to participating families, including temporary accommodation, case management, orientation and assistance in accessing education, social protection and other essential services. Following medical clearance, families are supported to transition from temporary accommodation in Dublin to more sustainable housing across Ireland. The programme takes a holistic approach to supporting families’ wellbeing, integration and progression towards greater independence while the children continue to receive necessary medical care.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provide comprehensive casework support to Palestinian patients and their families participating in the Gaza Medical Evacuation Initiative.

- Conduct and regularly review family needs assessments and action plans, identifying medical, accommodation, education, social protection, integration and other support needs.

- Support families in accessing relevant statutory and community services, including healthcare, education, social protection, local authority and other essential services.

- Coordinate practical arrangements related to medical appointments, including transport and accommodation, in collaboration with healthcare providers, IRC colleagues and relevant partners.

- Work closely with the IRC Housing Team and relevant stakeholders to support families to transition from temporary accommodation to suitable and sustainable longer-term housing.

- Provide information, guidance, referrals and advocacy to help families address identified barriers, understand available services and progress towards greater independence.

- Identify and appropriately escalate safeguarding, protection and welfare concerns in accordance with IRC policies and procedures.

- Maintain accurate and confidential case records, needs assessments, case notes, referrals, statistics and programme tracking systems in line with GDPR and IRC requirements.

- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with IRC teams, volunteers, healthcare providers, statutory authorities, local organisations and other relevant stakeholders.

- Participate in case reviews, transition and case-closure processes, meetings and trainings, and undertake other reasonable duties required to support the effective delivery of the Gaza Medical Evacuation Initiative.

- To undertake any other relevant duties within the overall scope of this post as may be required from time to time.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Essential Criteria

• Fluency in Arabic and English is essential.

• Demonstrated excellent attention to detail, organised, reliable and methodical in all aspects of the role.

• Experience in face-to-face client work and/or casework, demonstrating excellent communication and proven listening skills.

• Experience in direct case work/management supporting migrants, preferably within the voluntary sector.

• Experience of working with people from different cultural backgrounds, particularly migrants.

• A demonstrated understanding of asylum and migration, and associated topics, including relevant legislation.

• Be a team player, with demonstrated ability to plan and manage own time effectively.

• Ability to always respect confidentiality of service users.

Desirable Criteria

• Relevant 3rd level qualification or similar experience.

• Knowledge of the work of the Irish Red Cross.

• Experience working with volunteers.

• Full Driving Licence and use of a car to support travel

The role is a full time position based on a 35 hour working week. It may require occasional evening and weekend work.

The role is based in Dublin, however, it may be possible for this role to be remote around the country with travel to Dublin office as agreed.
