Purpose of Role

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is responsible for establishing a respected and valued presence with researchers, investigators, and key opinion leaders working within hematology and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), including essential thrombocythemia (ET) and myelofibrosis (MF).


The MSL will engage in fair-balanced scientific exchange and respond to requests for information regarding investigational products, clinical development programs, and diseases of interest with key stakeholders. Through a thorough understanding of national and regional experts, treatment patterns, and evolving scientific trends, the MSL will generate actionable insights to help shape medical and clinical development strategy.


This role is particularly suited to an individual who thrives in an innovative biotechnology environment and is comfortable supporting both external scientific engagement and the continued development of Medical Affairs capabilities as clinical programs advance


Key Accountabilities:


Opinion Leader Engagement

  • Identify, develop and maintain collaborative relationships with current and future Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), investigators, and healthcare stakeholders within hematology and related disease areas.
  • Conduct compliant, high-quality scientific exchange focused on disease state education, emerging science, and investigational therapies.
  • Establish and expand relationships with leading academic centers, research institutions, and community treatment centers across the assigned region.
  • Represent the client at scientific congresses, investigator meetings, advisory boards, and other scientific forums.
  • Deliver scientific and clinical presentations in response to unsolicited requests in both individual and group settings.
  • Facilitate interactions between healthcare professionals and internal medical experts where appropriate.

Scientific Expertise

  • Develop a deep understanding of the hematology treatment landscape, including myeloproliferative neoplasms, key stakeholders, clinical practice patterns, and unmet patient needs.
  • Maintain a high level of scientific and clinical expertise relating to the client's pipeline assets and development programs.
  • Develop and execute regional territory plans aligned with overall medical strategy.
  • Monitor scientific developments, competitive activities, and emerging data relevant to the therapeutic area.
  • Translate field insights into actionable recommendations that support medical strategy and long-term planning

Clinical Trial Support

  • Partner closely with Clinical Development teams to support early-stage clinical programs and study execution.
  • Support site identification, investigator outreach, and feasibility activities where appropriate.
  • Collect and communicate field insights to inform protocol development, clinical strategy, and future study planning.
  • Maintain productive relationships with study investigators and research sites.
  • Contribute to the development and review of scientific materials, presentations, and investigator resources.
  • Act as a scientific liaison for investigator-sponsored research and collaborative research opportunities where applicable.

Cross Functional Support

  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Commercial, and other cross-functional teams to provide field-based scientific insights.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of advisory boards, scientific meetings, and educational activities.
  • Support medical education initiatives, scientific communication activities, and publication planning as required.
  • Contribute to competitive intelligence activities and provide timely feedback on scientific and clinical developments.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of systems and processes that support Medical Affairs activities.
  • Participate in the development of scalable medical processes, documentation standards, and operating procedures appropriate for a growing organization.

Compliance

  • Operate in a highly ethical manner and comply with all laws, regulations, industry codes, and company policies.
  • Complete mandatory training within assigned timelines.
  • Ensure all scientific exchanges and stakeholder interactions are appropriately documented.
  • Adhere to internal standard processes and regulatory compliance requirements across all countries within the assigned region.


Qualifications:

  • An advanced doctoral degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) or MSc is preferred.
  • 5+ years of previous medical affairs experience required, preferably in MSL and/or headquartered based medical affairs role
  • Postgraduate therapeutic area experience in hematology or oncology is preferred
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems and understanding of treatment landscape, diagnostic testing and reimbursement in your country/assigned region
  • Demonstrated expertise in building relationships and participating in credible scientific exchange with multiple audiences. Networking skills and confidence to interact with senior experts on a peer-to-peer level
  • Experience with clinical trial design, conduct and evaluation
  • Thorough knowledge of local (several countries or territory) legal, regulatory, and compliance regulations and guidelines relevant to industry interaction with health care professions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to present medical/scientific information in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to function well, both independently and within a team setting, in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Team orientated and ability to work collaboratively towards common objectives
  • Biotech experience is a plus
  • Fluent in English and fluency in the language of a local country is required
  • Able to travel internationally, up to ~70% of time
