Koniag Advisory Business Solutions, LLC a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Medical Records Technician Coder III to support KABS and our government customer. The position is remote. This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust.

Koniag Advisory Business Solutions (KABS) is seeking an experienced Medical Records Technician – Coder III to support the Indian Health Service (IHS) Haskell Indian Health Center. This is a fully remote position responsible for accurate and timely coding of outpatient and ambulatory patient encounters and supporting the facility's efforts to reduce its existing coding backlog and maintain coding currency.

The successful candidate will be an experienced, self-directed coding professional who is comfortable working independently in a remote environment, managing priorities and productivity requirements, and communicating professionally with providers, business office staff, and IHS leadership. Strong judgment, diplomacy, organization, and time-management skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review clinical documentation and accurately assign diagnostic and procedural codes for outpatient, ambulatory, emergency, observation, day surgery, and other applicable encounters.
• Abstract coded information into IHS RPMS and the Patient Care Component (PCC).
• Apply current ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS Level II, E/M, and National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) guidelines.
• Identify and prioritize Medicare and Medicaid All-Inclusive Rate (AIR) encounters and other claims approaching timely filing deadlines.
• Review medical records for completeness, accuracy, medical necessity, and compliance with reimbursement and regulatory requirements.
• Identify documentation discrepancies and communicate professionally with providers and staff to obtain clarification or additional information when needed.
• Support resolution of incomplete or delinquent records and coding-related system or documentation issues.
• Assist with coding audits, compliance reviews, reimbursement-denial analysis, and performance improvement activities.
• Maintain accurate coding statistics, deficiency information, error reports, and other required documentation.
• Work collaboratively with clinical, Health Information Management, and Business Office staff while independently managing daily workload and priorities.
• Maintain productivity and quality standards while working remotely with limited day-to-day supervision.

Performance Expectations:

• Code approximately 1,250 patient encounters per month, or the volume made available for coding.
• Maintain a coding accuracy rate of at least 95%.
• Work aged backlog encounters in accordance with IHS-established priorities, including timely filing and AIR requirements.
• Maintain consistent communication regarding records that cannot be coded, documentation deficiencies, system issues, or other barriers affecting productivity.

Required Qualifications:

• Current coding credential in good standing, such as CCS, CCS-P, CPC, COC, RHIT, or RHIA.
• Minimum of three years of production outpatient and ambulatory medical coding experience.
• Demonstrated experience working with the Indian Health Service (IHS), RPMS, and PCC.
• Working knowledge of IHS Medicare and Medicaid All-Inclusive Rate reimbursement requirements.
• Current knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS Level II, E/M guidelines, and NCCI requirements.
• Strong analytical, documentation-review, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively and diplomatically across clinical, administrative, and operational teams.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize competing priorities, meet production expectations, and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
• Must be dependable, responsive, and comfortable taking initiative to resolve coding and documentation issues.

Additional Information:

• Must successfully complete the required IHS personnel security and suitability determination before beginning work.
• Must comply with all applicable IHS privacy, security, confidentiality, and training requirements.
• Provide highspeed internet access and dedicated work area that can be secured. Documented proof of dedicated work area will be required.
• Will need to be video ready during all duty hours. Video must be on during all call, meetings and conversations with both the client and KABS personnel.

Work Schedule:

• Position is fully remote, although initial coordination may be required for government-issued equipment and system access.
• Core hours are 9:00 am to 3:00pm CT. Will work 5 day, 8 hours per day. Upon Government approval, schedule may be modified to 4 days a week, 10 hours per day.
• No routine travel is anticipated.
