You'll lead a team responsible for building and maintaining the systems, automations, and infrastructure that power every internal department at The Uncommon Business (TUB). You build the organizational tools and automation that help TUB run effectively.

This role includes:

  • Leading the Build Team's (Technical Operations) day-to-day operations, including capacity planning, prioritization, scope reviews, and architectural decision-making
  • Managing and developing a team of builders (AI/Automation technical builders) across multiple skill levels through coaching, mentorship, performance management, and career growth planning
  • Establishing and maintaining the technical standards and quality expectations for all systems and automation work
  • Personally contributing to high-leverage technical builds while helping scale team capability and headcount
  • Owning vendor relationships across platforms such as Zoom, Twilio, SendBlue, Zapier, N8N, Supabase, Notion, Slack, Loom, Calendly, and future tooling, including evaluation, negotiation, contract renewals, and budget stewardship
  • Maintaining Build Team velocity standards and ensuring all requests move from submission to active project management quickly and effectively
  • Partnering closely with the Director of Operations to support technical decision-making, reporting, hiring initiatives, and cross-functional execution
  • Representing the Build Team in company-wide conversations and proactively surfacing recommendations, risks, and opportunities
  • Collaborating with peer leaders across Data, Project Management, Sales, Marketing, and Operations to deliver scalable solutions across the organization

Qualifications:

  • Deep hands-on experience building production AI systems and automations
  • Advanced experience with modern AI tools and platforms including Claude, Claude Code, N8N, Supabase, AI agents, automation frameworks, and related technologies
  • Strong understanding of systems architecture, workflow design, automation strategy, and operational scalability
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, software contracts, and SaaS budgets
  • Proven experience leading technical builders, operators, systems teams, or automation teams of four or more team members
  • Demonstrated experience owning capacity planning, prioritization, and operational execution within a high-growth environment
  • Ability to operate strategically while remaining hands-on when needed
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to lead difficult conversations, negotiate effectively, and drive accountability
  • Ability to make decisions quickly in fast-moving environments with incomplete information
  • Experience working within entrepreneurial, founder-led, or high-accountability organizations preferred

Our Ideal Teammate Is Someone Who:

  • Leads with ownership and consistently drives outcomes
  • Thinks in systems and proactively builds solutions before problems scale
  • Balances strategic thinking with practical execution
  • Is comfortable making difficult decisions and having direct conversations
  • Operates with urgency while maintaining quality standards
  • Embraces AI-first thinking and continuously seeks opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Builds frameworks, processes, and scalable systems instead of creating dependencies
  • Communicates clearly, confidently, and professionally across all levels of the organization
  • Thrives in fast-paced environments where expectations and standards are high
  • Wants to help build the future of AI-enabled business operations

Dream Teammate

  • Has successfully scaled an automation, AI systems, or technical operations function
  • Has experience leading builders while remaining technically credible and hands-on
  • Naturally identifies inefficiencies and immediately begins designing better systems
  • Enjoys mentoring and developing high-performing technical talent
  • Brings a builder mindset combined with leadership maturity
  • Loves solving complex operational challenges through technology and automation
  • Gets energized by accountability, rapid growth, and meaningful impact
