Position Summary
The Manager of Oral Surgery Billing is responsible for leading all revenue cycle operations for the organization’s oral surgery practices, overseeing both medical and dental billing functions from start to finish. This role ensures efficiency, compliance, and accuracy across all stages of the revenue cycle—including insurance verification, treatment planning, claim submission, payment posting, and accounts receivable (insurance and patient).

As the subject matter expert for oral surgery RCM, this leader will partner with internal departments and practice teams to standardize processes, strengthen communication, and drive continuous improvement across the DSO.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all oral surgery revenue cycle operations, including insurance verification, treatment plan review, claim submission, payment posting, and AR follow-up for both dental and medical payers.
  • Ensure the accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of all billing and collection activities, adhering to payer requirements and internal policies.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders—including Operations, Finance, Payor Relations, and Data/Analytics—to streamline processes, improve reporting accuracy, and resolve revenue-impacting issues.
  • Partner with office-level teams to align front-end workflows (eligibility, benefit verification, pre-determinations, and patient estimates) with back-end billing and payment functions.
  • Review and validate coding and documentation for both medical and dental claims, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payer rules (CDT, CPT, ICD-10).
  • Manage and monitor denials, appeals, and AR performance, ensuring timely resolution and optimized cash flow.
  • Oversee insurance payment posting and patient AR management, ensuring accurate allocations, reconciliation, and transparency across systems.
  • Support development and rollout of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all oral surgery billing and collection processes.
  • Collaborate with the VP of RCM to analyze key metrics (AR aging, collection rates, denial trends, and claim turnaround times) and implement improvement strategies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer policies, coding requirements, and industry trends relevant to oral surgery and implant billing.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in dental and/or oral surgery billing and collections, with strong knowledge of medical billing workflows.
  • Expertise in CPT, CDT, and ICD-10 coding, cross-coding, and payer-specific requirements.
  • Hands-on experience in insurance verification, treatment planning, claim submission, posting, and AR management.
  • Proven success working cross-functionally with operations, finance, and data teams in a multi-location or DSO environment.
  • Proficiency with practice management and billing systems (Denticon, Cloud 9, Open Dental, etc.) and clearinghouse platforms.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with billing and managing claims under both medical and dental payers.
  • Familiarity with EFT posting, EOB reconciliation, and AR reporting workflows.
  • Prior experience developing or optimizing RCM processes within a DSO.
  • Ability to train or mentor office-level staff on billing best practices.
  • Experience with DSN and Denticon practice management systems.

Benefits

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Training and Development opportunities
  • Remote flexibility
