Greater Good Charities is a 501(c)(3) global nonprofit organization that works to help people, pets, and the planet by mobilizing in response to need and amplifying the good. To date, we have provided over $1B in aid, expertise, and funding in 121 countries in support of this mission.

Position Overview:

Greater Good Charities is seeking a mission-driven, relationship-oriented Major Gifts Officer to grow and steward a portfolio of high-net-worth individual donors in support of our global programs. This role is ideal for a persuasive communicator and strategic thinker who thrives in a collaborative, impact-focused environment.

As Major Gifts Officer, you will lead the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major individual donors and prospects, while also contributing to the organization’s grant and foundation relationships through proposal and report writing support. You will work closely with leadership and program teams to align donor interests with Greater Good Charities’ priorities, ensuring a personalized and meaningful donor experience that supports transformational giving around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a robust portfolio of individual major donors and prospects — including donor-advised funds, family and private foundations, and planned giving prospects — with an emphasis on long-term relationships and gifts of $5,000 and above.
  • Design and execute customized donor engagement strategies, including documented cultivation plans, individual outreach cadences, proposals, site visits, and stewardship reports; maintain an active pipeline with real-time relationship status in HubSpot and review monthly pipeline with the Director of Major Gifts.
  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals, with an initial target of $1 million in major gifts in the first year.
  • Identify, research, and qualify new major gift prospects annually — both external high-capacity prospects documenting all qualification activity in HubSpot.
  • Maintain timely, consistent, and personalized outreach across the full portfolio, adhering to contact frequency by donor tier; ensure timely follow-up, acknowledgments, and recognition in alignment with donor expectations.
  • Assist with the organization’s foundation and grant relationships, including contributing to materials, proposals, and pitch decks; prepare and edit grant proposals and reports as needed in coordination with the grants team.
  • Partner with Advancement staff on donor visits, events, and strategic solicitations; monitor giving trends and donor interests to inform strategy and messaging; and contribute to a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
  • Stay informed of trends in high-net-worth philanthropy and donor behavior to bring fresh insights to the team.

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in individual major gift fundraising, with a proven record of closing five- and six-figure gifts and a demonstrated track record of managing active cultivation pipelines — documented cultivation plans, outreach cadences, and moves management in a CRM — not only closed gift totals.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including experience drafting donor proposals, stewardship reports, face-to-face solicitations, and grant-related materials.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (HubSpot preferred), donor pipeline management, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working with executives and high-net-worth individuals with discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Experience in animal welfare, environmental, or humanitarian sectors preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 10-20%; commitment to the mission of Greater Good Charities and ability to represent the organization with passion and authenticity.
