We have an opening for an experienced Mainframe Developer (key skills: COBOL, JCL, VSAM, IDz, and CICS). You'll join a great team; a good personality and strong work ethic are key.
This position is remote; however, you must live in the United States (no exceptions) and you must have lived in the U.S. fulltime for three of the last five years.
This position requires:
- Insurance or Healthcare claims experience,
- skills in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, IDz (or RDz), and CICS - if you don't have all these, please don't apply
- Recent (the past two years) mainframe development experience,
- U.S. Citizenship or Green Card (no exceptions, also no 1099, C2C, or recruiters),
- a background investigation to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance
Job Summary
As an experienced Mainframe Developer, you will lead development efforts in a highly structured and rigorous development environment that follows the SAFe Agile/Scrum framework. In this role you will be responsible for driving ongoing support, maintenance, and stability of the legacy mainframe systems, including COBOL and Assembler components, that provide critical claims processing operations; for conducting client product demonstrations; and for mentoring junior team members.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead efforts to design, code, unit test, and debug enhancement and fixes to the health claims processing system while adhering to strict coding standards.
- Be a key contributor on a persistent development team guiding maintenance and operations.
- Design, Development, and Implement complex components within a legacy mainframe environment.
- Guide and mentor through resolving defects, implementing change requests, and supporting operational stability.
- Take a leading role in design activities related to maintenance solutions.
- Demonstrate general use and application of development concepts, practices, and techniques.
- Design, prepare, and execute unit tests to validate change prior to release, and represent team to clients.
- Be the go-to person for developing solutions to a variety of technical problems.
- Apply technical knowledge to deliver maintenance solutions across one or more technology areas.
- Apply company and 3rd party technologies to software solutions of moderate complexity.
- Implement end-user or enterprise solutions of moderate complexity with only general direction provided.
- Integrate technical expertise and business understanding to create stable and reliable solutions for clients.
- Lead brainstorming sessions with team members and stakeholders on complex issues.
- Lead time and resource estimates for assigned tasks and projects.
- Develop solutions to complex business and technology problems in areas of proven expertise.
- Lead the development of standards, guidelines, and best practices.
Qualifications - Required
- Must Have Skills: COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS - if you don't have all these, please don't apply
- Experience with Eclipse (IDz/RDz)
- Industry experience: Insurance (claims), Healthcare (Medicare or Medicaid claims processing)
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with 9 years of Mainframe Developer experience
- Demonstrated experience as a senior mainframe developer in a highly rigorous, structured development environment.
- Strong communication skills and technical writing ability.
- Ability to develop application solutions and provide accurate estimates.
- Must be able to achieve and maintain Public Trust clearance.
Qualifications - Preferred
- Familiarity with development and collaboration tools: GitHub, Jira, Confluence
- Experience with application lifecycle methodology, specifically Agile/Scrum.
- Experience with Assembler language in a mainframe environment.
- Experience with DevOps/DevSecOps tools and frameworks through plan, define, build, test, release, and deploy processes.

Salary Range
$89,000 - $105,000 annually
In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, the salary range listed above represents the good-faith compensation range we reasonably expect to offer for this position at the time of posting. Actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, qualifications, education, geographic location, and internal compensation considerations.
In addition to base salary, employee may be eligible for additional compensation and benefits, which will be discussed during the hiring process. We are committed to providing competitive compensation that reflects the value and contributions of each team member.
