M365 Engineer

About the Role 

We’re looking for an experienced Systems/Platform Engineer to join our Back-Office Technology Engineering team.  This position will be focused primarily on our Microsoft 365 environment and related identity, endpoint, and security technologies. 

This hands-on role combines day-to-day administration with engineering, design, and project implementation. As part of a small team, you’ll own platforms, troubleshoot across technologies, and help improve how we operate. We’re looking for someone with a broad base of experience across a variety of technologies and a desire to grow and learn new things. A solid security background and identity management experience are especially valuable. 

Responsibilities 

• Platform Administration: Manage and support Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and other assigned enterprise platforms 

• Engineering and Delivery: Gather technical requirements, design solutions, and own implementations and technical projects 

• Identity and Security: Manage Conditional Access, privileged access, authentication methods, and platform hardening; partner with security teams on investigations and risk remediation 

• Troubleshooting: Resolve complex escalations across identity, endpoints, applications, and infrastructure 

• Automation and Scripting: Build scripts, tools, and procedures to reduce manual work and improve consistency using PowerShell, Power Platform, etc 

• Platform Reliability: Monitor service health, eliminate recurring problems, and improve availability 

• General Infrastructure: Support Windows Server, AD, virtualization, Linux, networking, and other technologies as needed 

• Documentation and Collaboration: Maintain technical documentation and procedures; work with internal teams and vendors 

• On-call Support: Participate in an on-call rotation for a 24x7 company, including off-hours maintenance and incident response 

Experience 

• 4+ years in systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or related IT operations roles 

• Hands-on administration of enterprise-scale Microsoft 365 environments 

• Independent ownership of platforms, complex troubleshooting, and technical implementations 

• Balancing operational support with project delivery 

• Working within enterprise ITSM, ticketing, and change control processes (ServiceNow or similar) 

Education 

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience accepted 

Required Technical Skills 

• Microsoft 365 Core: Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams 

• Identity: Entra ID, Active Directory, and enterprise identity management 

• Access Controls: Conditional Access, MFA, SSO, PIM 

• Endpoint Management: Microsoft Intune 

• Automation: PowerShell and scripting/automation 

• M365 Security: Defender for Office 365 administration and troubleshooting 

• Security: Enterprise security practices across identity, endpoints, and infrastructure 

Preferred Technical Skills 

• Compliance: Microsoft Purview (DLP, eDiscovery, retention, sensitivity labels) 

• Security Monitoring: Microsoft Sentinel 

• Defender: Defender for Endpoint, Defender XDR 

• Identity Governance: Access reviews, lifecycle management 

• IAM Platforms: SailPoint or similar 

• Authentication: Windows Hello for Business, passkeys, FIDO2, certificate-based authentication 

• Licensing: M365 subscriptions and license management 

• VDI/Cloud Desktops: Windows 365 Cloud PCs 

• Servers: Windows Server administration 

• IT Foundation: Broad experience across networking, Linux, VMware/virtualization, and general IT
