Overview 

  • We are seeking detail-oriented Loan Operations, Post-Closing, and Compliance Internal Audit Analyst to perform audits and risk assessments across the lending lifecycle. The role is responsible for evaluating internal controls, identifying operational and compliance risks, conducting audit testing, and supporting the execution of the annual audit plan and special investigations. 
  • This is a fully remote position for an analytical professional with strong critical-thinking, investigative, documentation, and communication skills. 

About the Role 

The Loan Operations, Post-Closing, and Compliance Internal Audit Analyst supports the execution of audits across the lending lifecycle. The role performs audit testing, continuous monitoring, and risk assessments to evaluate internal controls, regulatory compliance, and operational effectiveness. Audit activities may include the review of processes and data maintained in loan servicing, workflow, and business applications such as LAPro, QuickBase, Monday.com, and other systems utilized by the organization.

  • Audit engagements are completed on time and meet Internal Audit quality standards. 
  • Significant risks, control deficiencies, and compliance issues are identified and reported clearly. 
  • Audit workpapers and supporting evidence are accurate, complete, and well documented. 
  • Annual audit projects, continuous monitoring activities, and special investigations are executed effectively. 
  • Management implements sustainable corrective actions that strengthen controls and reduce risk. 
  • Demonstrates professionalism, objectivity, and strong collaboration with stakeholders throughout audit engagements. 

 

Typical Day-to-Day 

  • Conduct audits of loan operations, closing, post-closing, servicing, and compliance activities. 
  • Review loan files, system data, reports, and support documentation to evaluate control effectiveness and regulatory compliance. 
  • Perform audit testing, data analysis, walkthroughs, and risk assessments in support of the annual audit plan. 
  • Conduct ad hoc investigations, management requests, and special review projects. 
  • Prepare audit work papers, findings, recommendations, and management reports. 
  • Validate management corrective actions and monitor remediation of audit findings. 
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders while maintaining audit independence and objectivity. 

Key Objectives for This Role (Quarterly Focus) 

  • Complete assigned audits and continuous monitoring activities in accordance with the annual audit plan. 
  • Identify and evaluate control weaknesses, compliance risks, and process improvement opportunities across loan operations, post-closing, and compliance functions. 
  • Deliver high-quality audit workpapers, test results, and support documentation. 
  • Communicate audit observations and recommendations clearly and professionally to management. 
  • Monitor and validate management's remediation of audit findings and corrective actions. 
  • Support special investigations, ad hoc reviews, and regulatory or management requests as needed. 

 

What You'll Be Doing (Core Responsibilities) 

Loan Operations Audit 

  • Perform audits across the lending lifecycle, including origination, underwriting, servicing, collections, and payoff activities. 
  • Evaluate internal controls, identify risks, and assess compliance with policies and procedures. 
  • Review loan documentation, loan activity, and supporting data for accuracy and completeness. 

Post-Closing Audit 

  • Evaluate post-closing controls related to documentation, loan boarding, collateral records, lien perfection, investor reporting, and exception management. 
  • Assess the effectiveness of controls designed to ensure the completeness and accuracy of post-closing activities. 

Compliance Audit 

  • Assess compliance with applicable laws, regulations, investor requirements, and internal policies. 
  • Identify compliance risks, control deficiencies, and areas requiring management attention. 

Audit Execution & Reporting 

  • Perform audit testing, walkthroughs, data analysis, continuous monitoring activities, and special investigations. 
  • Prepare audit workpapers, reports, and recommendations. 
  • Validate corrective actions and monitor remediation efforts. 

Requirements

  • Education 
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Auditing, or a related field.  
  • Required Experience 
    • One or more years of experience in experience in Internal Audit or External Audit. 
    • Proven ability to review detailed documents with a high degree of accuracy and consistency. 
    • Experience managing multiple deadlines and a steady queue of work independently. 

  • Key Performance Measures 
    • Timely execution of audits, continuous monitoring activities, and special projects. 
    • Accuracy and quality of audit testing, work papers, and supporting documentation. 
    • Identification of meaningful risks, control deficiencies, and compliance issues. 
    • Quality and impact of audit findings and recommendations. 
    • Timely follow-up and validation of corrective actions. 
    • Compliance with Internal Audit standards and methodology. 
    • Effective communication with stakeholders while maintaining independence.
        
  • Remote Work Requirements

  • Preferred Background / Industry Experience 
    • Exposure to loan operations, post-closing, lending compliance, quality control, servicing, or internal audit activities.

    • Organization: Manages competing priorities and deadlines without losing track of open items. 
    • Communication: Writes clearly and explains findings and required fixes professionally and concisely.

    • Collaboration: Works well across departments and with external partners. 
  •  Specific Technical Skills Needed 
    • General understanding of loan operations, closing, post-closing, and compliance functions. 
    • Basic knowledge of internal controls, risk assessment, and audit concepts. 
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 
    • Ability to review documentation and identify exceptions or control concerns. 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word. 
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills. 
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. 
    • Willingness to learn lending processes, compliance requirements, and Internal Audit practices.  
    • Nice to have: familiarity with loan servicing, workflow management, and business applications such as LAPro, QuickBase, Monday.com, or similar systems.
