Description and Requirements

BMC empowers nearly 80% of the Forbes Global 100 to accelerate business value, faster than humanly possible. Our industry-leading portfolio unlocks human and machine potential to drive business growth, innovation, and sustainable success. BMC does this in a simple and optimized way by connecting people, systems, and data that power the world’s largest organizations so they can seize a competitive advantage.
About the Role
We are looking for a Lead UX Designer to define and lead the experience strategy for BMC’s Agentic Experience initiative. This is a hands-on leadership role at the intersection of enterprise UX, AI and agentic systems, and product innovation. You will design how people understand, direct, collaborate with, supervise, and trust autonomous and semi-autonomous agents across complex workflows. You will partner with product, engineering, AI, research, and domain experts to translate agentic AI capabilities into clear, responsible, and valuable experiences for customers operating mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Agentic Experience Design (core focus)
● Define the end-to-end cross-product experience strategy for agentic AI systems, including intent capture, planning, recommendations, tool use, execution, status communication, exception handling, and outcomes.
● Design human-agent interaction patterns that make autonomy, system reasoning, confidence, permissions, and consequences understandable without overwhelming users.
● Create experiences for single-agent and multi-agent workflows across conversational, visual, and workflow-based interfaces.
● Design appropriate human-in-the-loop controls, approvals, escalation paths, reversibility, auditability, and recovery mechanisms for high-impact actions.
● Translate complex AI capabilities, constraints, and failure modes into intuitive enterprise experiences that build trust and support informed decision-making.
Experience Strategy, Research & Validation
● Shape the experience vision, principles, journeys, and interaction model for BMC’s agentic AI ecosystem.
● Lead discovery with customers, users, product teams, and domain experts to identify high-value agentic use cases and unmet needs.
● Prototype and test AI workflows, agent behaviours, trust cues, and interaction patterns through iterative research and usability evaluation.
● Define experience success measures for task completion, comprehension, trust, adoption, efficiency, and responsible use.
● Use qualitative and quantitative evidence to influence product direction and prioritize improvements.
Design Leadership & Collaboration
● Partner with product managers, AI engineers, architects, researchers, product designers, content designers, and domain specialists from concept through production.
● Facilitate cross-functional workshops to align use cases, system capabilities, user needs, risks, and experience outcomes.
● Establish reusable agentic UX patterns, standards, and guidance that scale across products while maintaining consistency and accessibility.
● Provide design direction, critique, and mentorship, raising craft quality and strengthening AI experience design practices across the organization.
● Communicate experience strategy, design rationale, risks, and trade-offs clearly to senior leaders and technical and non-technical stakeholders

Must-Have Skills & Experience
Education & Experience

● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, UX Design, Cognitive Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
● 10+ years of product or UX design experience in complex enterprise products, IT systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud, data, or other highly technical environments.
● A strong portfolio demonstrating systems thinking, end-to-end experience design, interaction design depth, and measurable product impact.
● Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional initiatives.
Agentic AI & UX Expertise
● Demonstrated experience successfully designing AI-powered, generative AI, or agentic experience strategies to real products or to enterprise workflows, beyond prototypes or conceptual exploration.
● Understanding of MCP, agent-to-agent protocols, AI observability, evaluation, governance, and enterprise security considerations.
● Practical understanding of agentic AI frameworks and concepts, including agents, tools, memory, context, planning, reasoning, orchestration, multi-agent collaboration, RAG, and human oversight.
● Experience mapping AI workflows and ecosystems across users, agents, enterprise applications, APIs, data, permissions, policies, and operational constraints.
● Ability to design for probabilistic behaviour, uncertainty, latency, failure, explainability, safety, trust, and responsible AI.
● Expertise in Figma and vibe design, with the ability to make complex interactions tangible for users and engineering teams.
● Strong user research, facilitation, storytelling, and executive communication skills
