About the role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead PLC Field Technician with a strong background in PLC-based control systems. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the installation, configuration, and commissioning of programmable logic controller (PLC) systems. You’ll mentor technicians in the field, oversee integration and startup efforts, and serve as a key technical point of contact for both internal teams and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead field installation, wiring, and commissioning of PLC systems for industrial automation and BMS applications.
- Troubleshoot PLC programs and field devices, ensuring smooth communication with SCADA or HMI platforms (e.g., Ignition).
- Coordinate with engineers and project managers to execute startup plans and ensure systems are installed per design specs.
- Interface with clients during commissioning, provide support during startup, and resolve technical issues.
- Configure protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, and OPC UA across various devices.
- Develop as-built documentation, redlines, and commissioning checklists.
- Mentor and coach junior technicians in the field.
- Manage materials, timelines, and priorities across multiple active job sites.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of hands-on experience with PLC systems in construction or industrial settings.
- Proficiency with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Schneider Electric.
- Experience with SCADA/HMI systems and industrial networking.
- Familiarity with protocols like Modbus, MQTT, OPC UA, and BACnet.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, network diagrams, and mechanical plans.
- Proven ability to lead field crews, delegate tasks, and manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel to project sites (85%)
