We are looking for a Lead Frontend Engineer to own the mobile experience at Selma, a digital wealth manager helping over 15,000 investors build wealth, manage it and plan for retirement.

About Selma

Selma is a digital wealth manager helping investors invest, grow and plan for retirement without the fees or opacity of a traditional bank. The product is a mobile-first app built around personalised ETF portfolios, AI-powered financial advice and a full retirement planning suite. Selma is regulated by FINMA as an independent wealth manager.

The team is around 18 people. Engineering is roughly seven, remote-first, with the product team mostly in Finland.

The role

You would be the primary code owner for the frontend: defining shared patterns, leading code reviews and mentoring engineers contributing to the app. You would sit in product trios alongside the PM and designer, the engineering side shifts depending on the project, but you are the consistent frontend voice throughout. Scope and technical approach get shaped before anything gets built.

The role sits between shipping and steering. Hands-on with features, while also being the person who decides how the frontend holds together as the product grows.

Selma's product covers the full arc of personal investing. The team has been expanding the retirement planning suite while in parallel building out Selma AI, an LLM layer on top of proprietary risk and wealth analysis engines. The frontend is where both of these reach users, and the challenge is making complex financial information feel simple and trustworthy on a small screen.

What you would own

• Frontend architecture direction and shared patterns

• Code review and quality bar across the app

• Mentoring engineers contributing to the frontend

• Scoping and technical approach in the product trio

What we are looking for

Must-haves:

• Production React Native experience, shipped real apps and maintained them

• TypeScript at a level where you have opinions on how it should be used across a codebase

• Experience owning or substantially shaping frontend architecture

• Used to working in a product trio, with a hand in shaping scope

• Improves what is there rather than starting over

• Pushes back when scope needs pushing back on

Nice to have:

• Experience with Expo (the team is moving in this direction)

• Fintech or regulated-product background

• GraphQL depth

• Experience building AI-integrated features

The culture

Selma runs a strong remote culture. The product team is based in Finland, the commercial and compliance sides in Switzerland and Austria. The Helsinki office exists for those who want a place to work from occasionally, but day-to-day work happens independently wherever you are. For candidates based outside Finland, this means working on your own physically, which suits some people well and others less so. The team gets together twice a year somewhere in Europe.

The people who do well here are pragmatic rather than dogmatic, act on incomplete information rather than wait for certainty, and are honest enough to question their own assumptions.
