AI Summary

Collaborate with experienced developers to design, build, and maintain the Moodle LMS using AI coding agents. Contribute to the full software development lifecycle while building internal tools and automations to improve team efficiency.

Moodle with us!

We're the world's most popular learning platform, and we’re on a mission to empower educators to improve our world.

Are you passionate about technology, already building things with AI coding agents, and excited to kick-start your career in software development?

At Moodle, we are looking for motivated and curious Junior Developers to join our Platform Solutions team. The Platform Solutions team plays an integral role in building, improving and maintaining the open-source Moodle LMS (Learning Management System), and is dedicated to creating a platform that all of Moodle's products can leverage while optimising the platform's performance and usability, and integrations with other software solutions and plugins.

We're building a team that works with AI, not around it. If you've been teaching yourself to build with tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or the OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, and you can show us what you've made, we want to hear from you. It matters far more to us what you've built than where (or whether) you studied

This is a fully remote role and can be offered as a permanent role in India, Indonesia, Vietnam or the Philippines.

What your new job can look like..

At Moodle, no two days will ever be the same, but will involve a mix of:

  • Collaborating with experienced developers on designing, developing, and implementing software solutions.
  • Using AI coding agents as part of your everyday workflow: scoping the task, writing a clear spec or prompt, then reviewing, testing and refining what comes back.
  • Writing clean, scalable, and efficient code across various platforms and applications, and being able to explain and defend every line of it, whether you or an agent wrote it first.
  • Building small automations and internal tools that make the wider team faster.
  • Participating in code reviews, learning best practices and improving code quality.
  • Contributing to the full software development lifecycle from concept to deployment and maintenance.
  • Learning new technologies and tools while solving real-world problems.
  • Contributing to projects that impact millions of users globally.

We'd love to meet you..

Especially if you can talk to us about your:

  • Hands-on experience with agentic AI development tools (for example Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or agents you've built yourself with an LLM API). Self-taught absolutely counts: side projects, hackathons, open-source contributions and things you built for fun are all evidence.
  • Working understanding of how to get good results from these tools: giving an agent the right context, breaking work into verifiable steps, and knowing when the output is wrong.
  • Judgement about where AI helps and where it doesn't, and a healthy scepticism about code you didn't reason through yourself.
  • Experience with or knowledge of PHP and JavaScript.
  • Passion for problem-solving, keen attention to detail and the desire to continuously improve.
  • Enthusiastic and approachable personality with the ability to build and maintain quality relationships with multiple stakeholders within a global team.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment: increasingly, being a strong developer means being able to describe a problem precisely, to people and to machines.
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and adapt to new challenges quickly.

Nice to have, not required: familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol), retrieval-augmented generation, prompt/context engineering, agent evaluation or testing, or having published a tool, plugin or agent of your own.

You don't need a certification or a formal AI qualification for this role. A GitHub repo, a demo video or a blog post explaining something you built will tell us more than any course certificate.
