The Role

We’re looking for a sharp, dependable Junior Attorney to take on a genuinely high-impact role at Laurel. You won’t carry a caseload of your own. Instead, you’ll work alongside our attorneys on their matters — covering their initial court conferences and hearing, initial arbitration appearances, and their depositions. You will also be reviewing their work product. This is a seat built around good judgment and a sharp eye. If you want to build real litigation skill fast by working closely with multiple attorneys across a high volume of employment matters, this is your seat.

What You'll Do

Cover Court & Arbitration Appearances

Stand in for Laurel attorneys at hearings and conferences across California state court and arbitration, appearing prepared and in command.

  • Case Management Conferences (CMCs), Trial Setting Conferences, and Status Conferences.
  • Informal Discovery Conferences (IDCs) and Orders to Show Cause (e.g., re: dismissal, sanctions, or failure to file proof of service).
  • Arbitration Management, Pre-Arbitration, and Preliminary Arbitration Conferences before retired judges and arbitrators.
  • Depositions — including taking and defending PMQ/PMK depositions and party depositions — and ex parte hearings as needed.
  • Preparing appearance outlines, reviewing the case file, and reporting results back to the responsible attorney promptly after each appearance.

Review Work Product

Serve as a trusted second set of eyes on the work product our Shared Services and paralegal teams prepare, catching issues before they reach the attorney or opposing counsel:

  • Review complaints and amended complaints for accuracy, strategy, and completeness.
  • Review propounded discovery (interrogatories, RFPs, RFAs) before it goes out, and analyze defendants’ discovery responses for sufficiency, completeness, and opportunities to press strategic advantage.
  • Review Meet & Confer letters and other litigation documents with a sharp eye for strategy and detail.
  • Flag findings clearly to the responsible attorney so matters keep moving with confidence.

Support Motion Work

  • Assist attorneys on motion work as needed — including research, drafting, and revision (e.g., motions to compel and related discovery motions).
  • Use Laurel’s AI-powered tools and dashboards to prioritize review work, track deadlines, and keep pace with a high volume of matters.

What You Bring
  • California Bar admission — licensed and in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Litigation experience — 1–3 years of civil litigation experience; employment law exposure preferred.
  • Courtroom confidence — comfortable and credible on your feet at hearings, conferences, and depositions.
  • Sharp writing and analysis — excellent legal writing, issue-spotting, and independent judgment; you catch what others miss.
  • Detail obsession — you’re the last line of defense before work product goes out the door.
  • Collaborative mindset — you take pride in making other attorneys’ work stronger rather than building your own docket.
  • Tech-forward — you see AI-assisted legal work as an opportunity, not a threat, and you’re energized by building a smarter, more consistent practice.

Why Laurel
  • Fully remote — work from anywhere in California with world-class collaboration tools.
  • Broad litigation exposure — work across many attorneys’ matters and forums instead of a single docket.
  • Tech-enabled efficiency — AI-assisted workflows mean you focus on litigation judgment, not busywork.
  • A culture that wins together — no egos, no bureaucracy; sharp, driven people who push and support each other.
  • Salary —  $125k - $140k depending on experience
  • Benefits — paid time off, holidays, health insurance, referral bonuses, and real opportunities for advancement.
