Jr. SEO Manager

We're looking for a Jr. SEO Manager to join our growing SEO team at MeanPug on a contractor basis. You'll work alongside senior SEO staff, supporting technical, content, and local SEO execution across a portfolio of law firm clients based in the US. This is an internal role - our account strategists handle all client communication, so you can focus entirely on the work.

You'll start with a defined set of tasks and grow into a broader portfolio as you build familiarity with our processes, tools, and the legal vertical. We're looking for someone who is genuinely curious about SEO, takes pride in clean execution, and wants to build a real foundation across all three areas of search.

Some overlap with US Eastern Time business hours is preferred but not required. We work asynchronously across time zones and have processes in place to support remote collaboration.

How the role works

You'll receive scoped work from account strategists via Asana, with budgets and priorities already defined. When you need information or access from a client, you'll pass a clear request to the strategist who handles that communication on your behalf. Your job is to execute thoroughly, flag issues proactively, and support the team in keeping keyword benchmarks moving in the right direction.

What you'll do

Technical SEO

• Support technical SEO audits across client sites, identifying crawlability, indexation, and site health issues under senior guidance
• Assist with implementing fixes related to redirects, canonicalization, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, and structured data in WordPress
• Help monitor site health on an ongoing basis using tools like Screaming Frog, Semrush, and Google Search Console
• Learn to diagnose Core Web Vitals and page speed issues and document findings clearly for senior review

Content SEO

• Conduct keyword research to support content strategies aligned with each client's practice areas and target markets
• Assist in producing content briefs for writers that translate SEO intent into clear, actionable guidance
• Help audit and optimize existing on-page content for relevance, structure, and search intent
• Support the identification of content gap opportunities across client sites

Local SEO

• Support Google Business Profile optimization and citation building across client portfolios
• Help monitor local rankings across target practice areas and geographies
• Identify and flag local listing inconsistencies across directories and data aggregators

Reporting and collaboration

• Help track keyword benchmark performance and surface notable changes to senior team members
• Work within Asana to manage tasks, track budgets, and communicate progress clearly to strategists
• Collaborate with the broader SEO team to share learnings and contribute to process improvements
• Stay current on algorithm updates and emerging SEO best practices, particularly in the legal vertical

Requirements

• 0 to 2 years of hands-on SEO experience across technical, content, or local SEO
• Basic familiarity with WordPress, including comfort navigating the CMS and common SEO plugins such as Yoast or RankMath
• Working knowledge of at least one major SEO tool such as Screaming Frog, Semrush, Ahrefs, or Google Search Console
• Understanding of core SEO concepts including keyword research, on-page optimization, and local search fundamentals
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, comfortable managing multiple tasks across multiple client accounts
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills for internal documentation and async collaboration with a US-based team
• Self-directed and comfortable working remotely within a defined workflow
• Genuine curiosity about SEO and a desire to grow quickly across all three areas of search

Bonus skills (nice to have)

• Any exposure to the legal industry or professional services
• Familiarity with Google Business Profile and local citation management
• Basic understanding of Core Web Vitals and page speed concepts
• Working knowledge of HTML or CSS as it relates to SEO implementation
• Exposure to GA4, GTM, or conversion tracking concepts
• Experience with project management tools such as Asana, Monday, or Notion
