We are seeking a mid-level Java Software Engineer to join our dynamic Agile team and contribute to delivering robust software solutions to the Department of Commerce. The candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining scalable, reliable, Java-based applications within an automated DevSecOps AWS Cloud Environment. The role focuses on supporting legacy system migration and building AWS-native solutions while ensuring optimal system performance and security.
The Java Software Engineer will be responsible for developing and enhancing cloud-based software solutions and legacy system migrations in support of the Department of Commerce. The candidate will leverage Java and AWS technologies to design and implement scalable, secure, and performant solutions while actively adhering to DevSecOps principles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, code, and test highly scalable cloud-based software solutions using Java technologies.
- Support migration of existing applications to an AWS Cloud environment or develop AWS-native solutions.
- Develop and execute database queries (e.g., SQL) to efficiently manage metadata or file storage.
- Manage and maintain CI/CD pipelines, implementing automated testing, code quality, and security scans.
- Build infrastructure using orchestration tools and automation.
- Optimize software and cloud platform performance for scalability, reliability, and enhanced security.
- Create scripts for automating recurring tasks and activities.
- Set up and monitor logging, alerts, and activity monitoring tools to ensure effective system operation.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and resolution of incidents/outages while performing system health checks.
Experience Required:
- 2–4 years experience in Java development, with a strong understanding of enterprise-scale application development and support.
- Prior experience in developing AWS Cloud-based applications and supporting cloud migrations.
- Proficiency in Java, J2EE, OpenJDK, Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, RESTful Web Services, JAX, XML, Python, SOA, and microservices architecture.
- Cloud & Containerization Tools: AWS services (e.g., ECS, Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, ELB, Aurora RDS), Docker, Fargate, Terraform, Ansible.
- DevSecOps Principles: CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, SonarQube, Apache Maven, Tenable, NPM, Nexus Lifecycle.
- Database Management: MySQL and Aurora MySQL.
- Authentication & Authorization: Okta.
- Monitoring Solutions: Systems Manager, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Secrets Manager, Instana, Splunk, Qradar.
- Agile project delivery methodologies and familiarity with tools like Rally or similar platforms.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities with proven ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
