Java Developer

We are seeking a highly skilled Java Developer to join our growing technology team at Individual Marketplace (a LOB inside the HWC segment of WTW). This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable enterprise applications while leveraging AI-native strategies, tools and practices to improve delivery efficiency/speed, code quality, and outcome.

The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in Java-based ecosystems combined with experience in modern engineering practices, DevOps, and AI-powered coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar solutions). You will collaborate with global teams to deliver robust digital solutions that support WTW’s business objectives.

The Role

• Design, develop, test, and deploy high-quality, scalable Java applications. 

• Collaborate with architects and cross-functional teams to define technical solutions aligned with business requirements. 

• Leverage AI-assisted development tools and skills to accelerate coding, automate repetitive tasks, and enhance code quality. 

• Participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices and secure coding standards. 

• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices. 

• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for automated build and deployment processes to Azure

• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring system reliability and performance. Be on call as required to attend incident calls and provide live support.

• Mentor junior developers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.

Qualifications

The Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. 

• 5–8 years of experience in Java development 

• Hands on experience with AI-assisted and AI-native development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, etc.). 

• Strong proficiency in: 

  • Core Java, Spring Boot, Spring Framework

  • RESTful APIs and Microservices architecture

  • SQL databases

  • Strong understanding of SQL (preferably Oracle SQL) is required.

  • Knowledge on Angular/React is preferred.

• Knowledge of modern development practices: 

  • Agile/Scrum methodologies

  • CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)

  • Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred). 

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment. 

• Excellent communication skills. 

• Exposure to security best practices and performance optimization techniques is a plus.

• Healthcare domain knowledge is preferred

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range and benefits information for this position are being included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, qualifications/experience, performance in the role and potential for revenue generation (Producer roles only).

Compensation

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $100,000 - $115,000 USD per year. This role is also eligible for an annual short-term incentive bonus.
