This is a remote position.

Piedmont Global is a Strategic Globalization Organization (SGO) helping organizations communicate with intelligence, operate with cultural fluency, and connect effectively across communities and markets. We are expanding our network of professional interpreters to support high-quality consecutive and simultaneous interpretation across on-site (OSI), video remote (VRI), and over-the-phone (OPI) settings.
Interpreters of Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Korean, Dari, Pashto, Urdu, Farsi, and Mandarin are especially encouraged to apply.

These are 1099 Independent Contractor positions. Assignments may take place on-site, via video remote interpreting (VRI), or over the phone (OPI), depending on our customers’ specific needs.

Interpreter Functions
  • Serve as an interpreter for a wide range of individuals with diverse voices, accents, speaking styles, tempos, and personalities.
  • Provide clear, accurate, and complete interpretations of verbal communication without additions, omissions, or alterations.
  • Interpret questions, answers, statements, arguments, explanations, and other forms of verbal communication.
  • Provide sight translation of documents and other written materials, as needed.
  • Accurately convey the speaker’s thoughts, intent, meaning, emotions, and tone from the source language into the target language, and vice versa.
  • Communicate any factors that may hinder or affect the quality of interpretation services.
  • Adhere to all applicable professional ethics, standards, and confidentiality requirements.


Requirements

• Hold a valid driver’s license, or any government-issued valid form of identification.
• Access to a laptop or desktop computer with 4GB (RAM) memory or higher and broadband (high-speed internet connection).
• Access to a mobile phone as a back-up device.
• Access to a headset that connects to the computer/ phone using a cable (not a wireless headset).
• A quiet workspace/home office with no distractions.

Minimum Qualifications:
Interpreter MINIMUM qualifications (non-medical settings):

• At least two (2) years of interpreting experience, paid or as a volunteer
• Two (2) relevant professional references that can vouch for the candidate’s work as an interpreter OR one (1) relevant professional reference and one (1) relevant professional letter of recommendation
• Native-level proficiency in English and the other languages.

Medical Interpreter MINIMUM qualifications (medical settings):
• Certification as a medical interpreter from a 40-hour program or equivalent, specifically for medical interpreting (i.e., CHIT Community Healthcare Interpreter Training)
• At least two (2) years of interpreting experience, professionally paid or as a volunteer, in a healthcare setting
• Two (2) relevant professional references that can vouch for the candidate’s work as an interpreter OR one (1) relevant professional reference and one (1) relevant professional letter of recommendation.

Desired but not required:
• University degree in Interpretation
• Certificate of professional interpreter training (at least 40 hours of training).

If available, interpreters should provide proof of:
• Certifications
• Test results from other organizations (testing centers, other LSPs, etc.).
